Info "to" look for

 

Thanks to all of you that replied to my queries.? Great info as always
I will take my X to a tech I've been working with, but obviously I have more questions and some info:
  • I go through the tuning routine and all pass..
  • I turned "off" voices 1 by one under Voice on/off and "thought" v #6 was the culprit.
  • I'm using a Prophet 6 to play the X.? When I play (repeating note pattern or one note),? I hear each voice get progressively softer until the last of the 6 voices either plays incredibly soft or is not firing. I've tried this on different patches.? Could this be pressure or something from the P6 causing the playing note problem on the X?
  • All displays, buttons, midi, powering up and audio appear to be working normally.
  • How would the unit act if caps or chips wouldn't function properly?
Sorry guys, I don't mean to appear to cry WOLF.? I just want my X to be healthy.'
I had a battery change recently and the tech said the unit was clean, but I didn't ask him to check the unit over.? ''Guess it's time to find a copy of the Service Manual for this..

This is strange,- how comes ?

I still have the emails I got from his wife march 10 and 12,- the latter
describing what caused his death.

As PeWe wrote on your other thread about the same topic, it is not clear at all you have a voice chip problem. Randomly replacing parts has a low chance of success. You need to find a tech, or become a tech.

My Friend said that he is out of 3372 though, but keep this for future reference.

HI!

Bought my Xpander new too in (IIRC) 1987.

The Xpander isn?t a synth w/ a complete voice on a chip.
Consequently you?d have to investigate more to find out what the failure
really is once you located the voice not playing/sounding correctly.
Don?t make the mistake and buy insanely expensive vintage CEM 3374 too
early.

Vintage Synth Shop seems to have it available though ...


I myself have 1 piece in stock too, just only for the case an OSC might
fail in my Xpander,- but it never did and even my Xpander isn?t recapped
up to now.
The CEM 3372 might fail earlier because signal is traveling thu.

During the decades, 2 voices failed on my Xpander,- and the 1st time it
was the CEM 3372.
The 2nd time it was just only a failing resistor causing the CEM 3372 to
fail and voice didn?t sound as a result.
Once the resistor was replaced the voice worked again and w/o replacing
the CEM 3372.

So, when you aren?t a qualified service tech,- you?d need one to find
out what?s really damaged.

Pretty awesome editor I must say Pascal, and the DAW integration with CC assignment for parameters makes it as accessible as any modern hardware synths I've got. Also makes loading patches via sysex easy. Is there any functionality limited in the free version??

About the youtube channel, I lost my credentials so don't expect new videos :)
