x6100 Com ports not seen on my PCs.

Hello.
?
I purchased a used x6100 and everything works great except that he COM ports are not seen on the PC.
Mouse and key board works on the "HOST" USB C port.
I tried on two desktops with one running Win 10 Pro and the other running Win 11 Pro. Also a Dell Laptop
running Win 10 Pro. I tried 3 different cables that are tested and working with different peripherals.
A factory reset didn't help.
The Firmware was from 2023 and I upgraded to the last available version. Still no Com ports to be seen.
I don't really want to return it as I love the radio and I hope one of you might have a solution.
Thanks for any help.

Connection to the PC is done using the DEV-port. The cable needs to be a USB-C (x6100-DEV) to USB-A (PC) type that serves more than just the power signals. Take the one that came with the X6100.

I have only USB-C port on my laptop and a usb c-c cable does not work, you need in such a case to use a usb c-b cable and then an adapter b to c. Don't ask me why.

You have the wrong USB C TO C cable.? you need one that supports data.

Edited

Yes agree, but this same USB C-C? (with adapter) works with winlink on my FTDx10. - but not on the X6100.

Here's a couple of relevant youtubes on the subject:

?
Good Luck.

My Laptop has both USB A and USB C, neither works.
Both cables work with USB flash drives.

Both cables work with USB flash drives.

Thanks Klaus.
?
The cables I tried all work with USB SSD drives.

Latest news.
Not having any success with cables or software drivers my hope went to a bad solder joint on the USB connector.
Wouldn't be the first time.
I did open the radio and found no problem with the soldering.
I am at loss. Aside from the "DEV" connection everything else works great and I still love the radio.
Thanks to everyone who tried to help.

As mentioned, you need to use the cable that came with the radio connected to the DEV port. Also in my experience win10/11 are problematic as they seem to keep silently replacing the installed driver with a Microsoft supplied driver. Once i grabbed an old laptop and installed win7 on it i was able to connect just fine. It could have been that i was running win10/11 in a virtual machine on Linux, or it was just win10/11 being dumb. Either way i couldn't get win10/11 to work. Win7 connected to omnirig + HDSDR without issue.

If you have the chance to try it with Linux (or know a friend who runs Linux and try to connect to the dev port), we can try to rule out Windows vs the hardware (USB cables, X6100 USB connector, etc).
In Linux the moment you connect that USB cable to your PC you should see several new messages (use 'sudo dmesg -T' to see them) similar to these:

Once it is connected, you can also run the command 'lsusb', and in the output you should see a couple of lines like these:

Hope this helps,

I saw those but it didn't help.
I even downloaded the CHA drivers but when I try to install it shows 'already installed'.

I have a Lenovo X1 Micro with only USB C ports.? The only thing I've found to work (after trying Amazon's and Grok's recommendations for USBC to C data cables), is to use a good USBC to USBA cable, with a USBA to USBC adapter. This works perfectly.? Grok says something about this setup forcing the laptop port into a simpler condition that works properly as USB host mode on the laptop.

You are looking in device manager at you ?

And just like my Windows PC nothing happens when I plug the cable in. I did compare the results of both commands
with and without the 6100 plugged in and see no difference.

Anthony,
?
I am ready to try everything. I tested all my cables with high speed devices but I am willing to order the same components you are using.
Please be kind enough to give the link to the cables and adapters you use and works for you.
?
Thank you.

Yvon,
given you results with Linux, i.e. that nothing happens there either, I am 100% sure it is a hardware/cable problem.
If your X6100 is still under warranty, I would definitely contact the vendor to see what they think.
