Patched BASE firmware with changed TX audio filter low cutoff frequency #firmware

Hi.
Original BASE firmware applies bandpass filter to input signal. Cutoff frequencies is 300 Hz and 3000 Hz. I checked with different modulations (AM, FM, SSB, SSB digital) by passing a noise signal as an input.
For my point of view 300 Hz is too high. I patched firmware and changed this frequency to 160 Hz.
Also, I recorded some samples using my SDR, original X6100 microphone, using SSB modulation. I tried to reproduce same conditions for each of records, but for the recording with 160 Hz filter I forgot to turn off my analog compressor.

I prepared 2 patched versions: for 1.1.6 BASE (2022) and for 1.1.7 BASE (latest, 2024)
Audio samples and patched firmware available at

Disclaimer: I tested it on my transceiver, but can't guarantee, that it will work on your device.

Installing procedure:
1. Connect transceiver to WiFi
2. Connect to transceiver with WinSCP (or FileZilla)
3. Copy one (or both) of the xgf files from link above to the /usr/firmware.
4. Open System settings -> Firmware upgrade on transceiver, choose uploaded file and update.
5. Check system info - BASE version should contain "160Hz"

Steps 1 and 2 are the same as for opening TX ()

Looks like I miss a character from YouTube link. - this is correct.
Configuration for WinSCP connection:
protocol: SFTP
hostname: ip address of the transceiver (or you might try to use xiegu-X6100 - sometimes it works)
username: root
password: 123

... thank You .
Yes , the video was never found ... hi.
I will just now try to get a connect .

Georgy,
I think what you have discovered (300-3000Hz Bandpass) is the cause of problems with nearby strong CW signals desensitizing reception of weaker signal in the narrow filter. Either AGC is applied to this wider bandwidth before the narrow filtering or the strong signal overloads the radio. It is too bad that the 300-3000 filter isn't made narrower corresponding to the mode: CW, RTTY, PSK31.

Ooo this is interesting Gregory ! The R1CBU .24 uses the original base also? Thx Scot M0RWV

I wonder if my understanding of your post is correct: Filter High/Low change, or DFL FIL1..3 (in OEM) does ONLY affect RX and no changing TX passband?

I'm using USB type Ethernet adaptor to connect radio, seems I never connect it to my WiFi - so I have no advice. Only one thing - wifi antenna on the transceiver is very small - it might be helpful to move it closer to your router.

This filter (300-3000) applies only during TX. Looks like BASE applies some filters to input IQ signal before demodulation, but I'm not investigate this huge part of firmware yet.

This firmware is independent from the R1CBU. Using R1CBU will not change BASE firmware. Also - this patch might be used with original and R1CBU. It's just for another part of the radio.

Absolutely correct.

Awesome! Sorry for quick reply I’m on mobile but this is awesome!

I’m guessing you found the hex address for the passband filter limits? If so I can hex compare your version to the original and perhaps experiment!

How very Motorola 68000 of us haha! I miss a good hack and a “nop” command :-)

Best Scot!

Sent from my iPhone.

Easy to install Gregory and worked perfectly. Nice low response and I think it improves the built?in microphone response but maybe it's my imagination (but I dont?think so,?the internal mic seems more sensitve to lower frequency sound now). Thank you!?

I used WiFi ssh basic scp copy command?from a Mac?

scp [email protected]:/usr/firmware/X6100_BBFW_V1.1.7_240904001.xgf X6100_BBFW_V1.1.7_240904001.xgf. ?(save my old FW to Mac)

scp X6100_BBFW_V1.1.7_240904001_160.xgf [email protected]:/usr/firmware/X6100_BBFW_V1.1.7_240904001_160.xgf. ? (copy your up)

Ran upgrade and bingo

Thanks

Yes, I used to decompile, than find similar place in 1.1.7 and patch it.

Don't forget to decrypt before comparing.

... also if I`m with both (Computer & X6100 ) directly located at the router ...
and in the same network I get no access to the X6100 . All entries are correct in WinSCP (or FilZilla too),
but the X6100 will not found .
Made all like to see in the video .
?
Any ideas ...??

After success connection to WiFi you will see:
* DISCONNECT label for button
* connected text on your wifi item.

Also, you can try to turn on DHCP (like on picture). Then use name xiegu-X6100 instead of IP address to connect to the radio.

Thanks Georgy,?
sounded cut off like an older telephone capsule microphone ;)
now like it has to be!
Xiegu always makes there radios worser than they are due to dilligence.
Not only in the software, but also in some hardware design flaws.

Also - be sure your SSID does not contain spaces.? It will fail.

With the release of 1.19 with base of 1.18, I'm assuming we should not apply these patches yet?
