Battery or external power for radio use (transmit)

New to this radio, pardon me if this question is clarified elsewhere... but I haven't found the answer in the documentation or in group threads...
?
Just so I'm getting this straight.
?
DO *NOT* use the wall charger for transmission.? It's never shown me the proper voltage and it trickles just a few miliamps.
?
DO use an external power source 3.4A @ 13.8V (with the software charging switch turned to 'off' (per pg. 127 of the extended user guide.)
?
I'd use my deep cycle 12v battery and it's charger... tied to the radio via the power pigtail that came in the box.
?
Otherwise use the radio on battery only.? Unless the use is reception only?
?
The instructions and logic here seem pretty muddy.
?
Thanks in advance for helping me grok the conventions.

You can use either the ext or int?battery for x6100 operations xmt and rcv. Just with int battery get 5 w output. With ext get 10w.?

Also can charge int battery using external battery but do not operate the rig when charging. Radio will overheat ? And turn off charging when operating?

"do not operate the rig when charging."
?
Meaning turn off / power down the radio. No passive 'listening' or testing antennas, etc.? E.g. charge it when the screen is black.?
?
Thanks for the clarifications!

That's why the SHADOW CHARGING option is so handy.
Turns CHG ON when radio is powered OFF, and vice versa.

Ok. There's another setting I've missed?
?
Can you elaborate? I've been reading this (link) but don't see (Shadow) mentioned...
?
?
Thanks for clarifying...

Under R1CBU firmware, under GEN button, keep paging through until you get to Charger.? There are three options, ON-OFF-SHADOW.
?

Interesting, I'm on the Sept 2024 Firmware and base... Charger limited to on / off only options.
?
Going to read that other post now...
?
Thank you!

APP: V1.1.9 Sep 14 2024,12:11:57
BASE: V1.1.8 Sep 15 2024,15:22:37
?
This version has only charger on/off...

R1CBU runs on top of the base software.? You need to download and install R1CBU to and SD card and boot from the SD card.? R1CBU does not over-write the stock firmware.? Unplug the SD card and you are back to stock firmware.? I run SSB and FT8 on R1CBU. There are several YT videos on R1CBU.? Watch a few.? To me, it's superior to the stock firmware and it is still being actively updated by the community.

Good grief! I thought I was loosing it. Thank you for the clarification. Using stock firmware, this is what I have understood ... PLEASE comment? Correct!

Column at left talks source, the rows differentiate each possible state. The Shadow comment is not relevant to the base software. But to R1CBU unique.
