The mic it came with (i bought second hand) did not function properly, only the PTT and lights worked. I swapped it out for an other Icom Mic, it also functions in this same way.

Anyone have some insight on this? Am I an Idiot? or just unlucky?

Did you swap the cords as well? Not sure if all the functions on an icom mic work on this radio.

I experienced the same thing with my mic. NO direct entry whatsoever. I was trying things out just using internal battery. While the unit was on, I plugged in my external battery and the direct entry started working. After seeing that it now worked, I turned off the radio, unplugged the external battery and turned radio back on. Direct entry still seemed to work ok...... (for now)
