X6100 PWR consumption wit external PSU

Just for information, some measurements of pwr consumption using an external power supply unit.
Could be useful to know if you plan to purchase an external Li-Ion bat. for outdoor activities.

Only loading from a 13.2V source - current 0.64A (empty int. Li-Ion pack)
TRX off loading deactivated via menu and connected to the ext. source - current 0.05A
Rx on, loading disabled, Loudspeaker off - current 0.4A
Rx on, Loudspeaker fully activated 1kHz single tone - 0.5A
Tx CW, loading disabled, 5W hf-pwr, 50Ohm dummy, - current 1.6 - 2.2A (for 7, 10, 14, 21, 28 MHz bands)
Tx CW, loading disabled, 10W hf-pwr, 50Ohm dummy, - current 2.9 - 3.1A (for 7, 10, 14, 21, 28 MHz bands)

Tx CW, loading disabled, 1W hf-pwr, 7Mhz, - current 1.5A
Tx CW, loading disabled, 0.1W hf-pwr, 7Mhz, - current 1.3A

Take only CW under consideration while doing my tests.

Very helpful, Markus.? Your findings are consistent with what I have observed less rigorously.

Consider LiFePO4 instead of Li-ion. The voltage is of LiFePO4 is lower, and that is beneficial for this rig.? LiFePO4 in 3S has just the right voltage for this rig (9,6 V nominal, instead of 11,1 V nominal for Li-ion).? A voltage higher than 9V just ads extra heat (i.e. wasted capacity).

Tnx Robert for pointing to this issue.
I'm already using LiFePO4 and only used the wrong terminus. Sorry.
So you recommend a S3 configuration as sufficient?
Is this the case even for 10W operation?

Hi. Yes, 3S would be suffcient and imho even optimal. In this group you will find people who measured input voltage vs output power for this rig. Between 9 and 10 V is fine. Most of the input is regulated down to 5 V anyway (except for the PA).
A higher then 10V voltage just adds extra heat internally (the voltage regulators are analog, not switching) with no extra power output. For digimodes the X6100 can get quite hot already, so it's best not to add unnecessary waste heat!

The output transformer of the X6100 is very weak. It is not designed for a power of more than 5W - therefore, there are very frequent cases of its burnout after working in digital modes at 10W.

Hi dear Oleg,

In term of bad winding (capacity, coupling) or in term of size of transformer (core material, core dimension) .

Have someone rewind, redim the transformer successful?

There is a russian guy doing repairs of x6100 on youtube (radio chef?), he just rewinds burnt transformers using thicker wire.

Yes, he has already fixed several of these. At the same time, the power increases by about 12 watts as a bonus.

Has anyone posted an instruction on the number of turns and the winding pattern of the X6100 transformer? When I repaired and upgraded my output stage, the coil was in good order so I didn't need to replace it, but for the future it would be nice to have it documented for everyone to be able to find??

I'm also looking for this since I received one X6100 for repair, which has a toasted transformer.?
I think it?s clear that there are two turns through the cores, but not sure how all ends are supposed to be connected. Since the transformer I'm working on was pretty burnt it's not easy to guess from the original wires :-)

Great 12V 9AHr LiFePO4 battery from Bioenno Power, get 2 for price of 1.? I have had this battery for about 4 years and is great for QRP work.
?
Must do following:
In order to get this deal you must do this exactly.
1. Go to the home page first,

2. Click on the get BOGO deal, Select ONLY the Battery only-important.
3. Click on Add to cart, the small popup should have two batteries
and one charger, click on Checkout, finish checking checkout.
?
Best to get their charger for LiFePO4 batteries need to be charged correctly.? The battery has coaxial input for? charger and also cable with? PowerPoles for load.
