new discussion group formed on XEphem home site

Hello all,

This is a note to say I have finished the preliminary shakedown tests
and am now going live with my own discussion group, hosted on the same
web server as the XEphem site. You are invited to register at:

I appreciate the enthusiam shown for XEphem at this egroup. In no way
does creating my own facility imply any dissatisfaction here. Indeed,
this facility offers more functionality than does my own. I just
believe that by focusing my attention on one group I can be more
effective, and what better place to host such a group than on my own
web server. If there are any technical problems, please contact me
directly right way.

Thank you, hope to see you there.

Elwood

PS. Many thanks to my web master, John Huggins, for his excellent
service.

I went there and registered. I'm a little confused though. Will
messages posted on the board go to my email address? Is there a way to
post to the forum via email? Ya see... I rarely have access to a browser
at work but I have continuous email. Therefore I find an email route
favorable to a message board.

Elwood,

does that webforum mean the elimination of this eGroups' group, xephem@...?? (or better, this YahooGroups' )

Whether the Yahoo group remains or not is not up to me and I have no
personal opinion either way. What I am saying is that I am giving priority
to monitoring traffic on my forum; others forums (such as sci.astro, etc)
will be secondary. Again, in no way should this be construed as any sort of
criticism whatsoever for any of the other forums; my goal is just to better
manage my time, and to give XEphem users one definitive place to meet.

Let me see if I can help set the record straight. First, I defer
to Elwood on anything he may or may not wish. If he sees a reason to
dissolve this list, I'll do so. That being said, here are the options.

I've offered to Elwood to turn over complete ownership of this
list to him. We are still talking about it. Elwood indicated that there
may be other email options available in the future that originate from the
discussion forum on his website. If that happens, then I will defer to his
new mailing list and dissolve this group. Or, Elwood may agree that
running the Yahoo group may be the viable option. In the meantime, I will
continue to maintain this list until asked otherwise.
