Re: Can't get xephem to work in ubuntu 20.04
Yep. Have compiled and installed it on an Ubuntu 20.04 box. Cannot remember any problems, but needed to install some libs, probably the ones for Motif.
I will try again tomorrow and see, whether I

Re: Can't get xephem to work in ubuntu 20.04
You need libXp which is Xprint, rarely used anymore. Uh-oh, I'm not
seeing it in Debian Bullseye. I installed Xephem a year or so ago and
I don't remember that problem. Somebody left it out

Can't get xephem to work in ubuntu 20.04
I tried two routes, neither worked:
#1 Install using the linux_install.sh file, then run the installed version
Result: xephem: error while loading shared libraries: libXP.so.6: cannot open shared

Re: XEphem in WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux)?
Thanks for the info. I don't know anything about WSL. I imagined it was
already some minimal distro assembled by MS. But if you can load any distro
you want then, yes, it should be quite simple.
But

Re: XEphem in WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux)?
Hello Maxime,
Nice to hear from you.
It is an interesting idea but I have not tried. The first challenge that
comes to mind is building the Motif library, that has never been easy even
on Linux.

XEphem in WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux)?
Dear XEphem enthusiasts,
Is it possible (and hopefully, not too difficult) to install and run XEphem in the Windows Subsystem for Linux? Have you ever heard of someone trying this?
Yours,

I recently tried to visualize the passage of Apollo near-Earth asteroid 2011ES4 through the solar system, but the plot shows it's position somwhere unexpected.

More documentation is always laudable.
It's already possible to save search equations.
Anyway, I've retired from updating XEphem so that's all folks.

Re: XEphem fails on MacOS 10.15.3 with Macports
Other Macports users report the same bug: https://trac.macports.org/ticket/60122. ( https://trac.macports.org/ticket/60122 )
Until the port is fixed XEphem is DOA via Macports, it seems.
