Re: Xephem 3.5.1 on RH7.1 Linux

Stephen Binks

OK... I got it sorted out.

The ROI and live dragging problems were due to an old XEphem
configuration file (~/XEphem/XEphem).

I tried removing it but xephem wouldn't start due to invalid default
font sizes in fallbacks.c

I changed the relevant defaults to 11pt instead of 12pt in fallbacks.c
and recompiled. Hey presto... everything works loverly :-)

BTW... my system is RH7.1 Gnome1.4 Sawfish.

Wonderful program but does anyone know why ROI won't draw a box (or

been released).

Also, live dragging won't work unless deselected in SkyView
Options.(It works as it should when deselected but no action at all
when selected)

I have upgraded from 3.4 through 3.5

Thanks

Steve

Re: XEphem 3.5 compilation (Windows)

Remove in file netmenu.c the lines # 1013,1014,1015

/**** #if !defined(h_errno) /* not always in netdb.h */
/*** extern int h_errno;
#endif
****/

Then compile it again - all should go well.

Regards
Klaus
Thank you very much, it compiles now, runs smoothly...
Life (and XEphem) is beautiful.

Any help would be appreciated.

Actually I've posted a message concerning XEphem 3.5 compilation on Windows on Nov 8... no replies so far :(
Ok, now some good news: XEphem 3.4 compiles on Windows NT using Cygwin, gcc, XFree86 and lesstif. But throws an error message on startup, saying:

X Error of failed request: BadColor (invalid Colormap parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 84 (X_AllocColor)
Resource id in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 68
Current serial number in output stream: 68
That's a new one on me. All my previous problems in the display
area were font problems. Maybe someone on the mailing list will have a
better answer.

sorry, no redhat here. On
you find a link
to redhat-specific packages, or you rebuild the src.rpm from my ftp.
Command to do so:

rpm --rebuild xephem-3.5-3.src.rpm

Is anyone else having trouble running XEphem under RH Linux 7.2?
I'm having an issue with the pulldown menus and some other data lines not
displaying properly. I've even gone back to the 3.4 registered CD
distribution and I still have the same problem. If anyone is interested in
seeing the screens I'm getting, please email me directly for samples. BTW
it's been reported to Elwood and he's looking into it.
Problem solved. It looks like 7.2 may be missing some fonts that
XEphem uses by default. I changed it to use different fonts and everything
is working now.

Makefile & Undefined reference to `Xp.....'

I recently upgraded to Mandrake 8.1, and figured since I wiped the
system I might as well install the latest xephem-3.5, so I pulled the
source and started to compile, everything went ok until the Makefile
hit the "gcc -o xephem ......" line. I then got a bunch of "libXm.so:
undefined reference to ..." errors.

After screwing around for a little while, it looks like the Xp
library does not get linked in the makefile.

Adding $(XPLIB) to the LOCAL_LIBRARIES worked great:
LOCAL_LIBRARIES = $(XMLIB) $(XTOOLLIB) $(XLIB) $(XPLIB) -lastro -lip

Everything compiles, and xephem is back up and running.

Thanks,

Dave....

Months previously? You must mean 7.1 then. 7.2 just came out about a week
ago. I also had absolutely no problems under 7.1.
Doh!! You're right... 7.1
