Boards

arecxcat boardsavailable? Thanks?

You might contact?Robert AD6XJ, I understand?he has a few that he's not using.

The last I heard Lee is still building them occasionally, I'll check with him the next time I talk to him.

It looks like Lee is willing to make another batch, he just asked me if I could program them.? I *think* I still have the technology (Win95 laptop with an old serial port based PIC programmer) ... We'll see.
I'll update the group if/when it happens.

I have an old pc and a PUC programmer. Be hapoy to help if they can be revived.

Skip, Not sure what is involved in making the boards...anything we can do to help?

Hi Steve,

The biggest issue is time.? I don't build the boards, I'm just the "software guy".? It's not practical for Lee to make boards one at a time so he does them in batches which makes the time commitment?larger.? My understanding is that he has PCBs and processors but needs to order some of the other parts.? The processor is very difficult to hand solder, but the rest isn't too bad.? Way back (16 years ago in 2004!) we decided against kitting the Xcat because we were concerned about the soldering skills and equipment available at the time.

If we were doing this project today there are lots of Chinese board houses such as??can do cheap fast and decent quality PCBs *AND* assembly fast and cheap.? The board setup fee alone back in 2004 would probably buy 50 built and assembled boards today.? Of course you have to use parts that already use and I doubt?the archaic PIC I used in 2004 is on that list...

Any idea how many boards we are talking about? If only a few, not much point in going hog wild. These moto radios are getting pretty old. I would like to see a compact control head to go with the xcat. Came up with a few preliminary designs some time ago but never progressed beyond that. I wonder if there are more modern PICs that could be drop in replacements in the xcat.?

I wasn't suggesting respinning the board, just that logistically things are much simpler for hobbyist?projects in 2020 than they were back in 2004. I never would have tackled the project alone, I built a point to point version for myself and was basically done.? Lee wanted a few and so he layed out a PCB.... it took off from there.
