I think having the main champions fighting over a Saudi-only title did nothing to increase interest. ======================================================== //->> NEWS FROM THE WRESTLING-ONLINE NEWSWIRE Web version at CROWN JEWEL 2024 RESULTS- Here are the results from the Crown Jewel 2024 event which took place from the Mohammed Abdo Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, and Tama Tonga defeated Roman Reigns, Jey Uso, and Jimmy Uso; Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair defeated Kairi Sane and Iyo Sky, Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson, and Chelsea Green and Piper Niven in a fatal four-way match to retain the WWE Women's Tag Team titles; Seth Rollins defeated Bronson Reed; Liv Morgan defeated Nia Jax to become the inaugural WWE Women's Crown Jewel champion; Randy Orton vs Kevin Owens was a no contest and the match never started; Cody Rhodes defeated Gunther to become the inaugural WWE Crown Jewel champion. LIV MORGAN AND CODY RHODES WIN CROWN JEWEL CHAMPIONSHIPS- Liv Morgan and Cody Rhodes became the inaugural Crown Jewel champions at the Crown Jewel premium live event held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. WWE Women's World champion Liv Morgan was the first one to win the title after she defeated WWE Women's champion Nia Jax. The match had a lot of interference, first by Tiffany Stratton who teased cashing in and then the arrival of Raquel Rodriguez and Dom Mysterio. Rodriguez and Mysterio helped Liv get the upperhand and Morgan won after delivering an Oblivion. After the match, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque came out to present Morgan with her new title as fans gave a standing ovation. In the main event of the show, WWE Undisputed champion Cody Rhodes defeated WWE World Heavyweight champion Gunther in a classic match which had a hot crowd throughout. The ending came when Cody tried a Cody Cutter from the top rope but Gunther caught him in a sleeper hold. Cody then reversed it, similar to how Bret Hart defeated Roddy Piper at Wr estleMania 8, and pinned Gunther to win the match. After the match, Gunther and Cody shook hands and Triple H came in with four Saudi officials - two men and two women - to present the Crown Jewel championship to Rhodes. After fireworks went off and some more celebrations, Liv Morgan joined in the ring as the champs posed together, shook hands, saluted the crowd, and the show went off the air. SAMI ZAYN LAYS OUT ROMAN REIGNS BY MISTAKE!- The Bloodline storyline got even more complicated at the Crown Jewel show with the re-introduction of Sami Zayn. Solo's Bloodline defeated the OG Bloodline in the opening match of Crown Jewel and pretty much to everyone's surprise, it was Solo Sikoa who got the clean pin on Roman Reigns for the win after Reigns got hammered by Jacob Fatu. After the match, the beatdown continued by Solo's Bloodline and with Jey Uso's head wrapped around a chair, Sami Zayn's theme song kicked in to a massive pop from the crowd. Sami entered the ring and went for a hug with Solo but that hug turned into an exploder suplex. Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, and Jacob Fatu attacked but The Usos recovered and dispatched everyone, leaving Solo in the ring alone surrounded by the OG Bloodline. With Jimmy, Jey, Sami, and Roman in each corner and Solo in the middle, Reigns went for the Superman punch and Zayn went for the Helluva Kick at the same time. Solo ducked and Sami clocked Reigns. Solo bolted out of the ring an d the OG Bloodline argued over what just happened, with Roman Reigns laying in the ring wondering how he got beaten - twice! You can see what happened at . RAW TAPING IN RIYADH TODAY- Tomorrow's Raw is being taped today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in the same location as yesterday's Crown Jewel event. This will be one of the biggest Raws of the year attendance-wise as the show is nearly sold out with under 50 tickets remaining at time of this writing. It's the first overseas Raw in a very, very long time as usually Smackdown is taped before an international PLE. But this time around, Smackdown had a double tapings two weeks ago and Raw gets to experience an international crowd. During the countdown show on Friday, fans were chanting for NXT and Triple H told the crowd that he would talk to HBK about it. The crowd was also chanting for WrestleMania, but after some consideration, Triple H said that yes, it's in Las Vegas, and the crowd booed his response! FATAL FOUR-WAY FOR GUNTHER'S NEXT CHALLENGER- A new number one contender for the WWE World Heavyweight title will be decided on Monday Night Raw tomorrow on an episode which will be taped tonight from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A fatal four-way match will pit Seth Rollins vs Dominik Mysterio vs Sheamus vs Damian Priest, with the winner moving ahead to take on champion Gunther. It's unclear if this match will take place at Survivor Series or on Saturday Night's Main Event which will be in December on NBC. Sheamus and Priest were not involved at Crown Jewel yesterday although Sheamus did the pre-show panel. Mysterio got involved in Liv Morgan's match but had no action while Rollins had to go through Bronson Reed. WWE GOING INTERNATIONAL ON ROAD TO WRESTLEMANIA- The road to WrestleMania will have an international flavor as WWE will tape six television broadcasts as part of a two-week tour in Europe. The former WCW and WWE Universal champion revealed that WWE's Nick Khan, Chris Legentil, and Paul "Triple H" Levesque informed him that they will be granting him his retirement match in 2025, but failed short on saying when and against who. Goldberg has been chasing a retirement match for a couple of years now and it was promised to him by Vince McMahon for doing the job to Roman Reigns in Saudi Arabia in 2022 at the Elimination Chamber.
