I have been trying to get FLDigi to work for months.? I have watched youtube videos until my brain has turned to mush.? I have gone through the user manual.? I have reached out to my local club Elmers and they all said they couldn't help (no knowledge).
?
I have it working with the radio using Hamlib.? All I get is garbled crap.? I get nothing on the waterfall now, I used to, but now nada.
?
There are just some fundamental things that I just haven't grasped.
?
I have FT8/4, JS8, Winlink(on HF) and VarAC all working just fine.? So all the rig/CAT and com settings I have a grip on.
?
I guess I'm hoping for someone close to me here in Eastern North Carolina or someone who is willing to spend some time on the phone with me.? This doesn't have to happen today (as there is a contest running), after months, what is another few days.....
?
If there is an Elmer out there willing to hold my hand, I would sure appreciate it.
?

Steve

If this helps Hamlin is for cat control.? Decodes come from selecting the correct audio feeds.? (Audio codec)? this depends on your radio sent by ve3wej on samsung s21+ On Sat, Feb 8, 2025, 1:56?p.m. Steve, KQ4QWH via <kq4qwh=[email protected]> wrote:

A little more information is required to assist.
What OS version do you have. Did you change the OS version from the last time it worked. What version of FLDIGI are you using. You can get garbage output in the absents of a signal, that does not necessarily mean anything other then to say that the squelch is set low (Radio and/or FLDIGI). Here is a simple test to rule out a few things. Under Configure->Soundcard->Device settings (FLDIGI) select "Microphone" for Capture and "Speakers" for playback. Place any headset/speakers to the computer with volume turned up in order to listen. Copy this (following text, between the ----- lines) ------------------------ To be on not to be that is the question ^r ------------------------ Paste it into the transmit panel. Do not hit transmit button yet, and turn off the connected transmitter if it's on. From the FLDIGI's menu select "File->Audio->TX generate". When it asks for a save location, note file name and save it to the desktop. Press the T/R (on FLDIGI). Do you hear digital audio output from the speakers/headset and see a digital signal on the waterfall? From the FLDIGI's menu select "File->Audio->TX generate" a second time (turning it off). Do not change the modem used to make recording during playback. From the FLDIGI's menu select "File->Audio->Playback" locate the audio file saved. Default name: generate.wav on desktop. Once found mouse click the file, and press open. You will be asked if you want play the file indefinitely, your call as to which. Do you see a digital signal on the water fall that matches what you sent? In the RX panel do you see the following text? "To be on not to be that is the question". Select "File->Audio->Playback" a second time to disable indefinite playback. If you have a microphone connected, when speaking into it do you see any changes in the waterfall that a signal is present and correlates with your speaking? If so, then the likely issue follows: The Audio capture/playback device is not set to the correct device. Which might imply, a) Select the correct audio device from the configure dialog (FLDIGI). b) You need to set permission for FLDIGI to have access to said device. c) You need a device driver is order have access to said device. d) Cable/Interface that connects between your radio and computer is; missing, loosely connected, or defective is some fashion. e) The radio is not set to take input/output from the computer interface. (Edit:Added) Don't know how much more I can assist you as I'm a hand on person in order to troubleshoot issues. But, let me know if you need help on the stated corrective suggestions. Robert |

First off, thank you so much for taking the time to try to help me. The FLDigi version is 4.2.06, I am running Windows 11 and it has not changed.? The FT-710 uses the RF Gain/SQL.? RF gain is at max.? I'm not using the pre-amps at this time, only IPO. I changed the audio settings as requested. I did the TX Generate, saved it the desktop.? Then hit transmit.? I got the RTTY in my headset, and the text appears in red in the sent pane.? There was nothing on the waterfall at all.? However, it did save the audio file and I confirmed it by playing it outside of FLDigi.? The audio in the bar at the bottom does respond appropriately when I transmitted it.? It also responded if I talked into the mic. Now here is where I get confused.? You instructions were: "Do not change the modem used to make recording during playback." I left it on the headset, and did the audio playback.? I got nothing.? So should I have changed the settings back to the CODEX or left it on the speaker at that point?? After that, I changed it back to my CODEX and tried again.? Now I have nothing.? It will throw a carrier, but no modulation. Ok, I changed the configuration in FLDigi to use FLRig(2.0.05), not Hamlib.? Switching to Hamlib was the only thing I had changed in my quest, so I went back to FLRig.? Obviously FLDigi doesn't like the Hamlib for some reason, but I eliminated that. I did a test of the radio then using VarAC, successful. Ok, brought up FLDigi/FLRig.? Tuned to an appropriate freq, transmitted CQ.? The radio successfully transmitted the CQ.? Here is a screen capture of my FLDigi. So, the issue isn't with my CODEX or windows settings.? It has to be that I have screwed up the actual controls of FLDigi from the main screen.? I have tried to play with the various sliders and controls along the bottom with no change to the waterfall.? And there are so many other modes discussed in the manual that I have not successfully figured out the correct settings for RTTY.? Hell, I can't even get someone to give me a straight answer on what mode the FT-710 is supposed to be in, LSB, Data L, or RTTY L (though this makes sense for bandpass) but without a waterfall to track in and try to receive, all I have is the waterfall on the radio, that has not been successful. So there I am. 73 Steve KQ4QWH Coats, NC

Ron, Well, I attempted to work RTTY all day long.? I'm burnt out now.? During all this I ran across one reference that RTTY is always LSB/Data-L.? But I tried upper and lower on all bands starting on 10m then 12, 15, 17, 20, 30, and 40m.? I got a partial copy on one station, enough to get his call and attempted to call him back.? I got one each heard reports on reverse beacon on 15 and 20m. Then randomly FLRig would just die.? Grrrrrrr When I tried to use the clusters on Log4OM it would switch to USB, so I don't know if those are just bad reports, or..... that is where they were?? I still tried both upper and lower. Zero QSOs for the day.? I even just CQed both upper and lower on each band hoping someone would come to me.? And with so many stations working RTTY today, frustration doesn't quite cover it.? I would try JS8 as they have a QSO party this weekend, but RTTY is blanketing the bands. I think I'm going to go have a beer and shut down the station.? This shouldn't be THAT hard!!! 73 Stephen Maley KQ4QWH Coats, NC

First
off, thank you so
much for taking
the time to try to
help me.
The
FLDigi version is
4.2.06, I am
running Windows 11
and it has not
changed.? The
FT-710 uses the RF
Gain/SQL.? RF gain
is at max.? I'm
not using the
pre-amps at this
time, only IPO.
I
changed the audio
settings as
requested.
I did
the TX Generate,
saved it the
desktop.? Then hit
transmit.? I got
the RTTY in my
headset, and the
text appears in
red in the sent
pane.? There was
nothing on the
waterfall at all.?
However, it did
save the audio
file and I
confirmed it by
playing it outside
of FLDigi.? The
audio in the bar
at the bottom
does respond
appropriately
when I
transmitted it.?
It also
responded if I
talked into the
mic.
Now
here is where I
get confused.?
You instructions
were:
"Do
not change the
modem used to
make recording
during
playback."
I
left it on the
headset, and
did the audio
playback.? I
got nothing.?
So should I
have changed
the settings
back to the
CODEX or left
it on the
speaker at
that point??
After that, I
changed it
back to my
CODEX and
tried again.?
Now I have
nothing.? It
will throw a
carrier, but
no modulation.
Ok,
I changed the
configuration
in FLDigi to
use
FLRig(2.0.05),
not Hamlib.?
Switching to
Hamlib was the
only thing I
had changed in
my quest, so I
went back to
FLRig.?
Obviously
FLDigi doesn't
like the
Hamlib for
some reason,
but I
eliminated
that.
I
did a test of
the radio then
using VarAC,
successful.
Ok,
brought up
FLDigi/FLRig.?
Tuned to an
appropriate
freq,
transmitted
CQ.? The radio
successfully
transmitted
the CQ.? Here
is a screen
capture of my
FLDigi.
So,
the issue
isn't with my
CODEX or
windows
settings.? It
has to be that
I have screwed
up the actual
controls of
FLDigi from
the main
screen.? I
have tried to
play with the
various
sliders and
controls along
the bottom
with no change
to the
waterfall.?
And there are
so many other
modes
discussed in
the manual
that I have
not
successfully
figured out
the correct
settings for
RTTY.? Hell, I
can't even get
someone to
give me a
straight
answer on what
mode the
FT-710 is
supposed to be
in, LSB, Data
L, or RTTY L
(though this
makes sense
for bandpass)
but without a
waterfall to
track in and
try to
receive, all I
have is the
waterfall on
the radio,
that has not
been
successful.
So
there I am.
