Moving Fldigi to a New PC
Hello Pete, I guess we're in a kind of hibernation mode right now, apologies... ;-) Well, since FLdigi behaves and doesn't write to (or uses) the Windows registry, it's quite simple in my opinion: 1. If you already use the latest stable FLdigi version, you may simply copy the entire FLdigi program folder (where the app fldigi.exe etc. currently reside) to the NEW PC. It usually doesn't matter, where you place this previous folder on the NEW PC. I personally don't use the official 'Program Files' folders which Windows governs rather restrictively, but this is rather a matter of taste. Any location should work. If you prefer to download a new updated FLdigi version instead, do so and install it into you preferred folder location on the NEW PC. Should the downloaded installation fail to launch with Windows complaining about anything, simply open the fldigi setup as an archive in 7zip (free tool, highly recommended!) and copy the files directly from there. In case of a new installation, launch FLdigi and check in 'Menu - File - Folders - Fldigi config...', where FLdigi expects the user files. If this location deviates from the default described below, either change the location to your preference or use this given location instead of what is described below. Close FLdigi on the NEW PC. 2. Launch FLdigi on the OLD PC 3. Choose 'Menu - File - Folders': Browse all entries and, one by one, copy the respective 'old' folders and their contents (if you wish to keep these) to the respective locations (folders) on the NEW PC. If you don't wish to keep all your old data, only copy the 'Fldigi config' folder with its contents to the NEW PC. Just in case you use a different user name (or locations structure) between the old vs. the NEW PC, make sure to use the new User Name on the NEW PC, e.g.: OLD: C:\Users\Pete\fldigi.files NEW: C:\Users\WB4YDY\fldigi.files In case you have installed FLdigi on the NEW PC from scratch (as described above) before copying the old files, make sure to overwrite the 'new' (default) FLdigi files with your 'old' preferred files. Unless you update from a very outdated version, FLdigi should be able to use the previous config files without problems (and add any new defaults as needed). May sound a bit difficult, but it works, and in fact it only takes these few steps to make it happen. Note: All programs that are part of the FLdigi family of tools (FLmsg, FLrig etc.) follow the above mentioned straightforward way. But I didn't mention any 3rd party RIG CONTROL software etc. above, since I only use FLdigi for SWL purposes. Such programs may need to be 'moved' over or installed separately, depending on how they're setup. I suggest to keep the data on the OLD PC as backup until you're sure everything (incl. macros etc.) works correctly on the NEW PC. Good luck Pete and please let us know, how it worked. If there's anything you think should be done differently, please advise. It may help in case a future similar request for help. Thank you. 73s and Best Regards SWL Tobias .-.-. Am Freitag, 17. Hello Pete, I failed to mention that any new hardware in or connected to the NEW PC may need adapted settings. The soundcard should of course be properly selected and then calibrated in FLdigi for best results. This is imperative for images, but generally advised. I attach my calibration 'recipe' just FYI... 73s and Best Regards SWL Tobias .-.-. Am Donnerstag, 16. Hi Tobias.
?
Thanks for your detailed response! I couldn't remember if Fldigi placed files elsewhere (like registry files) or not. It's been years since I changed over "radio pc's" and can't remember how I did everything. I am expecting to deal with audio and com port settings, but don't want to lose layouts and macros if I can help it. This sounds like it should be fairly straightforward. Fingers crossed...
?
I also use Rick N2AMG's DXLab-Fldigi Gateway, so that will be another bridge to cross. I reached out to Rick and haven't heard back from him yet. But I have copied all settings I can see, so hopefully I won't be suicidal before I finish. I will report back once everything is done.
?
Thanks, & 73,

Hi Pete, Well, fingers crossed it will all work. Always an adventure to get a new machine up and running. Patience and step-by-step actions certainly help. FLdigi is a great asset and worth every effort for sure! Good luck :-) 73s Tobiaa .-.-. Am Freitag, 17. Januar 2025 um 17:08:51 MEZ hat wb4ydy2 <petef@...> Folgendes geschrieben: Hi Tobias. ?
