Thank you for this tutorial.? With your permission I would like to include it on the fldigi wiki.? There are two FT-991A setup pages on the wiki.? Yours will be a very good addition.

Re: running FLAMP with two instances of FLDIGI

Based on how I think it works, I wouldn't guess that FLAMP can be used with multiple FLDIGIs unless each pair FLDIGI+FLAMP have their own configurations.? FLAMP will probably only work with the first FLDIGI started.
?
My understanding of how it works:
  • FLAMP and FLDIGI communicate over a TCP port on localhost.?
  • FLDIGI listens on the port, FLAMP connect to the port.
  • Two processes (FLDIGIs) usually cant listen on the same port at the same time, so the first FLDIGI grabs the port, the second FLDIGI tries to grab it but fails silently (which is fine).
  • When FLAMP starts, it connects to the port where the first FLDIGI is listening.
  • FLRIG is not really involved in FLAMP<-->FLDIGI communications.? (FLDIGI connects to FLRIG's TCP port, FLAMP connects to FLDIGI's TCP port.)
?
So, to get multiple FLAMPs to work with their own FLDIGIs you will probably have to configure them to use different ports.? I have done this and it can work.? It isnt the most elegant thing in the world tho.
?
Anyway, that's my take on it.? Might not be 100% correct.
?
Hope that helps.

running FLAMP with two instances of FLDIGI

I am using Widows 11.
?
I am able to get two instances of FLDIGI running using two separate directories.
?
I am using FLRIG for rig control and both instances attach smoothly to FLRIG and all works as expected.
?
I start FLAMP 2.1.13 and it says connects. ?But when I try to send from FLAMP ?I get no response from FLRIG.
?
If I kill FLAMP, kill one instances of FLDIGI, and restart FLAMP, all works as expected.
?
It looks like FLAMP will not work if two instances of FLDIGI are running.
?
I seem to get similar behavior with FLAMP 2.2.11.
?
Thoughts?
?
We need at least two instances of FLDIGI running for controlling out nets.
?
Thanks!

Re: Was: [winfldigi] fldigi freezes when trying to decode anything - MS

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I have a Dell laptop that was originally W10. I then updated it to W11. It originally had 4 GB of RAM, but along the way that was insufficient to run whichever if the Windowses it was. So I added an extra 4 GB. About a year ago an update to W11 made it impossible to run with 8GB. I had a look at what was running that bloated the memory usage but couldn't see anything to unload.

Also the laptop was physically falling apart in the that the screen was starting to separate from the body. (Lesson: do not close the laptop with a pen still at the hinge too often!) So I installed debian 12 on it and stuck it out of the way in the shack and it now runs CAT to both my rigs. I also use it as my main software development computer.

I am typing this on a new HP Windows 11 laptop as it's not easy to get a "vanilla" laptop that you can customise yourself. Also I occasionally need access to windows-only software.

Chris

I only have 4 gig of ram in both Toughbooks. I've run Kenwood and Icom with FLdigi Suite, other than operator error. I've had no issues.

What baud rate are you using? Not the PC baud but what the program and radio wants to see. Try something higher like 115200 as example.

I don't think the issue is with the CAT connection. If I use no CAT at all it still freezes the instant it tries to decode something. If I set the squelch level high enough it runs no problem, but of course no decode then.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Guys ¨C it pains me to see all this difficulty.? I can only wish you well¡¡¡? I have a new-ish (6 m/o) Win-11 computer, and not a single issue to report.? Nothing since the first day I got it working.? Not logging, not with FL-DIGI, not with WSJT-X.

When I discovered that the computer that was attached to my radio was 14 years old, I went out and bought a new computer.? Windows 11 with 16 GB of ram and an SSD so it could decode digital stuff easily.? I first went in and disabled and/or deleted and/or removed most of the stuff that come with a new computer.? I use a different computer for E-mail, WORD, EXCEL, etc.? Then I loaded my logging program, the RT-Systems memory manager program for my radio, FL-DIGI and WSJT-X.

My radio had a built-in digital interface.? My radio has knobs.? I like using knobs.? I do not rely on any kind of other programs to run my radio.? The radio reports its frequency and mode to the logging program.? That is all.? The only settings I changed were those that I had to change.? I do not use any internal logs from the digital programs, I do not let the programs have control of my radio.

I know this is about as much help as the folks with the snide comments about the OS of the week to replace Windows.? If there is anything I can offer, give a yell.? But my install is as simple as simple can be.? Logging, FL-DIGI and WSJT-X is all this computer is used for.

Wishing you the best of luck getting it working.? I don¡¯t seem to have a photo with FL-Digi running¡¡

GOOD LUCK !!!!!

Not much hope though, fldigi even continues when fldigi.files/text/textout.txt is write protected. There is another one of this kind under File | Text Capture | Log all Rx/Tx text. Uncheck this one for a try."

Enable rx text was unchecked.

Log all Rx/Tx text was unchecked.

I don't have a Fldigi.files/text directory.

"Finally, have you even consulted the Help | Event Log? Any errors / warnings reported there? If unaccessible when locked up, close FLdigi. An event log is also kept under fldigi.files/status_log.txt - any hints of an issue there?"

No warning in Help/Event Log.

fldigi.files/debug/status_log.txt file is there, but has no text in it

?

I looked in my other computer fldigi.files/debug/status_log.txt file, and it is there but empty also.

?

I have just done "remove programs" and removed fldigi and flrig. I then went to the fldigi.files directory and it was still there! So I shift/ deleted that directory also.

I then reinstalled fldigi 4.1.20 (it runs well on my other laptop).

I did not set up any CAT control.

Fldigi still crashes instantly when the squelch level is lowered to the signal level green bar.

?

Any thoughts? I can set up a sandbox, but I am a bit short on time with the 10 gig contest a week away, but could try that later in the month when I figure out how.

I just hope I haven't set something stupidly.

Thanks again!
