(WT)302 in willys
Geno Hacker
I have a 49 Willys pickup with a Ford 302 in it. I have heard that you can
put 351 heads on it for more power. I know this might seem off subject but I was wondering if anyone knows how this will afect the low end performance. Any thoughts...comments? Well if you go ahead and do this, you'll be needing a parts source for your D25 and Timkin axles... In short....don't do it. Landen Schooler |

Back when I was into mustangs this was something that the magazines talked about a lot. Personally I've never done it but I think it was meant to improve head flow. Better flow usually equals higher revs. It doesn't sound like something you'd want for a 4wd truck but I'm sure that if you look around and talk to some of the mustang guys you could get better info. I'm just a shadetree hotrodder and definitely no pro at this but I think it probably would drop torque at the lower end in exchange for more HP at the top end. From what I remember there was some machine work necessary to fit the intake manifold to the heads. Good luck, Jerry ----- Original Message -----

I think the 302 intake will work, if I remember right the 351 intake will not because the block deck height is different. There could only be two possible advantages: 1) The chamber size on the 351 heads are smaller and thus will boost your compression. I don't think this is the case. 2) The valves and ports on the 351 heads are larger. this will help on the upper RPM ranges but won't do diddly on the lower end, may even hurt low end performance. I question whether it would be worth the trouble. A torquer cam and exhaust system mods would probably do more to boost performance than anything. Hope this helps Robert 53 Wagon |

Tne heads you are talking about are 351 windsor, If I remember, the are
30 cc smaller, or 1 compression rating higher.. IE if 302 is 9.0 to 1, it increases to 10.o to 1, We used a shim head gasket, with a metal based paint sprayed on to seal it on installation. The rocker arms wrer different, but i dont remember what they were off of, ( shorter i think). They had better pickup, power, torque.. --- Geno Hacker <linkupgear@...> wrote: From: Geno Hacker <linkupgear@...>------------------------------------------------------------------------ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/_________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
