original tires for my 48

Apryl Beardsley

hello everyone,
I have recently been given a 1948 cj2a willys from the
fire dept. They had these huge tires on it and it
makes it too hard for me to steer. Do you think that
if I switched back to the original size tires, the
steering would be easier? Where could I find them,
and how much do they cost? thanks so much,
Apryl from southern Illinois

Try Coker Tire Company online, it's where I bought mine. Get the tires
and tubes there. You don't need the tire flap.

Yes, getting rid of the oversize tires will make it easier to steer.
If you still have the stock rims, or can get a set, check this EBay
item #140157240859 600-16 6 ply bias light truck tires from Nanco.
$280 for a set of 4 ($70 per tire), plus shipping. I've not used these
myself, but it's the best price I've found anywhere and they come with
the tubes. These are highway tires, not off road, which will also make
them easier to steer, and a lot less noisy. 6.00-16 is the correct
original size according to the service manual. If you need a set of
rims, put an ad on the parts list. They shouldn't be too hard to find.
Harry Sheets will have an ad on the list and he should have them. If
the oversize tires and/or wheels are still useable, put them on the
parts list as a sell or trade for what you need. Hope this helps.

I got mine from www.universaltire.com.
I searched high and low. No matter how I figured it I came up to about $110/tire with tire, tube & grommet. whether I found 'em with free shipping or I paid the shipping it all came to the same firgure. I went with the outfit that could get them to me the quickest.
Good luck. My wagon has a good look with them on and they make a great noise running down the road.
