Re: Ready to Mingle #poll-notice

Doyle Kisler

Hi
?
I am intrigued about resuming in person meetings.
That said this month I can not attend as I will be in Alhambra for my grandson's HS graduation.

Subject:?[w6ggf] Ready to Mingle #poll-notice

A new poll has been created:

Howdy GVARC'ers,

Our breakfast is coming up in a couple of weeks and the question that came up during last night's net is..

Q: Are you ready to resume in-person monthly breakfast meetings?

I spoke with the manager at Mimi's this afternoon, and due to them having to move tables apart further and some other changes they have had to make to keep pace with the ever changing conditions, the room we usually use is only partially available at the moment. He said that if we had a smallish group of 10 or less that they could accommodate this month, as long as we let them know we are coming.?
We typically meet in June as part of field day. So we would have a pass for June.
And there is a very scaled down Garlic Festival in July, so we could meet again in person for the July breakfast.?

If we have more than 10 that say Yes, meet in person this month, then we will have to figure out options. Maybe we just go through a drive-thru and meet at a park, or just do virtual once more and meet again in July.?

We will discuss the results of this poll at the Tuesday 5/25 Net.?

Cheers,
Ray

1. I will attend the in-person breakfast in May
2. I will resume in-person breakfast in July (conditions allowing)
3. I am not ready to resume in-person meetings at this time.

Re: Mailbox Movement - QRX-QRX-QRX !!!

HEY FOLKS... QRX-QRX-QRX !!!

Has this Mailbox Movement matter been THOROUGHLY thought-through ???

NEWS FLASH #1: Post Offices (and P.O. Boxes very rarely Physically QSY).

NEWS FLASH #2: Human beings, on the other hand, have been known to QSY (Move) more than once during their lives.

So this begs the question...

If the GVARC Mailing Address changes now, "WHAT IF" Woody decides to move to in a year or two?? ?Does history repeat itself?

In addition to GVARC Members, how many entities and other people would need to be notified (AGAIN) of an address change?

Umh, like maybe the FCC ("Fox Charlie Charlie") for the W6GGF Ham License?? Any licenses required for the repeaters?? What about the Gilroy Garlic Festival (to receive a $$$ check should the events resume full-bore in the future)?

And the list of people to notify may go on further.? ?And should another move take place at some point in the future (near or distant), well, umh, ahhh, errr, I hope I have made my point for SERIOUS consideration.

Might it make more sense to KEEP THE GVARC GILROY P.O. BOX, and have a "Backup" plan for insuring the Annual P.O. Box fee renewal???

NEWS FLASH #3: FYI, P.O. Box fees can be paid "online" (that's how I do mine for a Morgan Hill P.O. Box).

That all being said, I pulled the stamp of the envelope with my dues addressed? to the Gilroy P.O. Box, put it on a larger envelope (and secured the stamp with clear tape) addressed to the 375 Heidi Drive/MH address, and put it out in the mailbox for pickup today.

Whatever the final disposition in this matter, REMEMBER... NOT everyone subscribes to this list/reflector.? IMHO, even "Past Members" would need to be notified of the change (in the event they may want to re-enlist in the GVARC).

Eric - K 6 V V A

Re: GVARC P.O. Box & Returned Mail (NEW INFO)

GVARC Folks:

This morning I attempted to reach the Postmaster or even a "Live Person" at the Gilroy Post Office via a "backline" number I have had for years.

A new telephone ARU gives several options, with a final one being for anything else, stay on the line and be transferred to the operator.? 3 times I ended up getting a "fast busy" signal which generally indicated the phone system is FUBAR.

So I attempted to call the Postmaster General's Office, and went down a similar BLACK HOLE 2 times with trying 2 different options attempting to reach a "Live Person" ;-(

I then tried a different approach through what must remain an "unnamed source" in an "undisclosed location".? That person was able to remotely access records at the Gilroy Post Office, and "SURPRISE-SURPRISE"... the mail has been getting returned because the box was officially "CLOSED" on April 11, 2021 after a 10 Day Grace period from the Due Date for payment in March (2021).

**** NOTE:? The last payment shown for P.O. Box 2178 was in May of 2020 !!!

QRX...................

I had put my check in the mailbox to be picked up today and decided I had better go out and retrieve it until this P.O. Box issue is cleaned up.? Either someone at the Gilroy Post Office did not apply a payment made to Box 2178, or, hmmm... perhaps the P.O. Box fee was not paid (???).

My "contact" suggested that someone from the GVARC go to the Gilroy Post Office IN-PERSON to sort things out.

FYI & 73,

Eric - K 6 V V A

Well folks, it has been a great and memorable 6 years here in the south bay area.? Living in Gilroy for most of that time, and now Hollister for the last year has been wonderful.? Radio has been a big element for both my wife (KM6CTR) and I (KM6HRW).? We both got our licenses up here, (thanks to the SBCARES group...(Tim and Heatherly the most!)) and we both achieved all of our upgrades up here too (both Extra's now).? We have had a great amount of fun with all of the field days, and the various other events that we have participated (garlic festival communications, Ham Fun nights, and various nets).? But alas, I have accepted a 'new' job with Lockheed that is going to move us to the Denver Colorado area, and we will be leaving behind all of our good friends (and bad traffic) here.? I wanted to post out that it has been a wonderful group, and we will stay in touch as best as we can.? Our e-mails that you will still be able to reach us at are Carl: carl@...?and Desiree: desireebaccus@...?.? Please feel free to reach out to either of us, especially if you know that you will be in the Denver area, we plan on (actually) buying a home when we get there. I will have someone update on the net once we get all moved and settled (maybe I will remote in somehow).
Thanks for all of the fun and support over the years! We will truly miss the radio group here!

Oh My !

I'll start by saying you two will be missed.
The chats, the visits, the field days, the breakfast gatherings,
through it all the last few years it has been great to become a friend.
I shall miss you both.

Seeing you discover the magic of radio, especially watching Desiree getting excited
at making contacts on field day made ham radio special again.
I wish you all the best in your rocky mountain adventure.
