Sticky Callsign ID Badge with Texas Flag : Ham Crazy!, Ham Radio Gifts and Fun Stuff Amateur Radio Operators!
A couple years ago club members ordered badges with our names and call signs. Since we have many new members, I would like to see us wear our badges to meetings and to other events such as breakfasts and Field Day so we can get to know each other better. If you do not have a badge, you can order one from a number of sources. The one below has a Texas flag design that is very nice. Badges are often available at hamfests as well. https://www.hamcrazy.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=14_16&products_id=111 Lee KV5M

Severe Outlook for Today is Enhanced
SPC has placed most of southeast Texas under an enhanced risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe weather today and a slight risk (Level 2 of 5) exists for excessive rainfall. The severe threat begins to unfold by around 10 AM thanks to daytime heating and, at the same time, the models show an area of PVA (lifting) moving into our area ahead of the approaching cold front. As PVA increases and both instability and atmospheric shear increase, thunderstorm activity will slowly trend upward. By about 1 or so the cold front should begin to push into southeast Texas and thunderstorm activity should increase even more and is likely to remain with us until close to or after dark. Thanks to the cold front, however, Saturday's weather should be much quieter. Some of today's storms will be training, which enhances the chance of flash flooding. In terms of severe potential, all risks are on the table including damaging winds, large hail, and the possibility of a few isolated tornadoes. The SPC Day-1 outlook graphic is attached. [DMRTexas] Radio Balloon Launch - POSTPONED to 5/31
Subject: [DMRTexas] Radio Balloon Launch - POSTPONED to 5/31 ? The decision has been made to postpone the balloon launch to Saturday 5/31. The driving factors of this decision are the excess amount of rain we have received in the past few days (very saturated ground here in NTX), the winds aloft pushing the predicted flight path pretty far east making the chase somewhat difficult, and the lakes/trees in the expected landing area. The only thing working in our favor was the weather this weekend. I'll follow up about a week before the 5/31 target launch date. In the meantime, check out https://k5rwk.org/balloons for details on how to get on the DMR repeater and how to receive our tracking and imaging payloads. 73 de KE5GDB _._,_._,_

[DMRTexas] Radio Balloon Launch - Saturday May 3 @ 9:00AM
Subject: [DMRTexas] Radio Balloon Launch - Saturday May 3 @ 9:00AM forwarding from: https://dmrtexas.groups.io/g/group/topic/radio_balloon_launch/112533721 Good evening! The Richardson Area Balloonatics / Richardson Wireless Klub will be launching a high-altitude weather balloon this coming Saturday, weather and upper atmosphere conditions permitting. The launch will be from Aubrey (details below), just north of the DFW metroplex, but near apogee at 100,000ft we expect coverage to include most of Texas and Oklahoma, with some Arkansas and Louisiana coverage as well. The flight is expected to last around 2.5 hours (9:00AM to ~11:00AM ascent, and on the ground by noon). We will have a special event QSL card if you receive images/tracking data from the balloon or make contact through the DMR repeater. See https://www.k5rwk.org/2025/04/29/rwk-balloon-launch-saturday-5-3/ (and the form at the bottom) to submit for a QSL card or Worked All Payloads ("WAP") award. Ways to participate from afar: * Track the payloads at https://amateur.sondehub.org/ (look for K5RWK and KE5GDB) * Receive SSTV pictures in real-time - 432.5 MHz / Robot 36 * Make contacts through the DMR repeater - 441.0 MHz / CC1 / TS1 / TG99 / Simplex * Listen to the KD5OUG Digi-talker on 146.52 MHz * Decode our tracking payloads - "Horus Binary v2" on 432.7 MHz and 432.8 MHz (decode using upper sideband and Horus GUI or https://horus.sondehub.org), K5UTD on 20m WSPR * Watch live images stream in via Wenet at https://ssdv.habhub.org/KE5GDB Participate in person: * Launch site will be the Greenbelt / 428 Park in Aubrey TX (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Kn1LPfyvQgpNrZwE7) * Launch prep begins at 8:00AM with a target launch time of 9:00AM * If chasing, please carpool -- we've had congestion issues before * Chase simplex is on 146.54MHz -- please bring at least an HT that can talk on 146.54 if chasing In addition to the radio payloads, we'll have a few 360¡ã cameras onboard to record the flight. Currently the weather forecast and expected trajectory are favorable for a launch on Saturday. I'll be sending more details regularly to [email protected] and [email protected] and a final update on Friday to this group. We hope to see you at the launch or hear you on the repeater! (Please forward this to any other interested clubs/groups/parties) 73 de KE5GDB

FT-991A TX Keyed by failed laptop docking station USB data port 3
Found my FT-991A stuck in transmit timeout timer mode. Isolated to a failed USB data port on my laptops docking station. Moving the USB cable from the back of the 991a to the FT-710 did not affect the 710. Moving the FT-991A USB cable to another data port on the docking station cleared the locked TX key-up issue. Also unplugging power to the USB docking station dropped the TX key-up. No laptop was connected to the docking station at the time nor during the above troubleshooting. Fail-safe: TX time-out timer, enabled by default, did its job. Action: Put a piece of tape over the failed data port. Buy another docking station someday. /Rick

Yaesu FT-857 Repair 2
I have an older Yaesu 857D whose LCD display is failing. Some time ago I was told there was a guy who is well known for repairing 857s, but I have lost the contact information. Does anyone have this info? I think he may have been in Missouri, maybe Michigan. Lee KV5M
