--- THIS IS NOT A DRILL --- A message from John Newman, N9JN: To: All ETECS members Smith County EMC has advised us that Optimum and other ISPs will be working on sub station equipment for lightning repair beginning at 0500 in the morning. Potentially this repair could affect the area 800 MHz public service system. An outage of service could last as long as 5 hours. We have been asked to be on stand by should our services be needed to support a potential outage of communications in the area. Please be prepared to deploy to various served agencies should be need arise. If we receive more information, it will be passed along. If activated, please listen for net on the ETECS repeater system. IMPORTANT: In order to have a feel for who can deploy, please reply ALL if you are available. Two items of business... 1. Join us for the ETECS training net this evening on the W5ETX system at 7:00 PM. 2. From David Chenault, W5CWT, in Rusk County: Ok, folks! The Resurrection Run is right around the corner! If you're new, this is a great event to get started. We support the race with communications and situational awareness. Basically, we are deployed along the race route and communicate back any information they need. The most basic requirement is that you have a handheld ham or GMRS radio. This year's event is Sat, April 12th, 7-am. I will send more information with race details, assignments, equipment needed, etc. This event is officially operated as a RCARC/ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) joint event but everyone is welcome to volunteer--you do NOT need to be a "member" of either group to help! This year, volunteer sign-up is a little different. Please use BOTH forms below to sign up. The race is asking us to sign up with their form so they have waivers on everyone (see their email below). I will eventually get your info from them, but using my form as well will let me know sooner, so we can plan.
