GAARES-P2P NET WEEKLY UPDATE FOR SUN APR 13, 2025 – v1
This week’s instructions are attached to this posting in pdf format and also located in the Files section of gaares.groups.io. Formatting is better in the pdf version. NET MANAGER’S COMMENTS ON TRAINING: The experience level of those participating weekly in the GAARES-P2P Net has come a long way since the initial Trials for this net started nearly 11 months ago. Just look at this past week’s performance line by line! With your help and dedication, the Trials turned into an official net in September. I am so very proud of all of you for taking on the training challenges each week since then. The Net has really matured. That said, I find that I need to step back some on the Net’s training effort. Simply put, I just cannot continue this pace, spending 20++ hours each week developing and executing new training. K5MEG and I both need more time to participate in other aspects of ham radio that we enjoy and have not been able to do this past few months, as well as so many other things in our lives. In addition, my duties on the Steering Committee and head of Training and Exercise Development at EDM – Emcomm Direct Messaging, have taken a significant hit these past few months. I need more time to devote to those duties. Rest assured, I am fully committed to this Net. However, new training scenarios will be cut down to one or sometimes two times a month. The net will continue to operate weekly with subject line check-in or simple form check-in. Written Training Sections will follow suit. Net Summaries most weeks will be much less detailed. Now for this week: TASKS FOR THIS WEEK: · Phase Evaluation: This is your opportunity to demonstrate your P2P proficiency · Check-in with simple “Subject Line” Check-in with minimal instructions. You know how to do this! · Remember the entire subject line info is now in ALLCAPS,NOSPACES · This week, rather than a “Question of the Week”, I would like you to each respond to THREE survey questions to help guide me forward · Please, no Grid Square location source in message header · Check-in on either or both bands SURVEY QUESTIONS FOR THIS WEEK: 1. Do you want to see the “Fun Question-of-the-Week” continued? YES or NO 2. Do you want to see “Training Sections” and “Check-ins” cover new areas? YES or NO 3. Do you want to see weekly mapping continued or only on primary weeks? WEEK or PRI SUNDAY, APR 13 CHECK-IN INSTRUCTIONS: · Prepare a check-in message using the short subject-line only check-in format we have used most of the time for months. · Msg Subject: CALL,FNAME,COUNTY,BANDM,A1,A2,A3 (A=survey answer) · Send this message via P2P per the schedule below, using either or both bands SCHEDULE FOR SUN APR 13 TIME: SESSION: CENTER FRQ: DIAL FREQ: BANDWIDTH 0800-1000 EDT 80m 3584.5 kHz 3583.0 500 Hz 1005-1400 EDT 40m 7083.5 kHz 7082.0 500 Hz Net Control Station (NCS) WG4PTP Your Net Control operator today is Kory W4RZ and Murdock W4JNR is the alternate. Check-in messages must be addressed to: GAARES-P2P CONTINGENCY PLANS FOR ALL GAARES P2P OPS, INCLUDING THIS NET: Contingency Frequencies: To be used for each band if the primary frequency is unusable due to continuous QRM such as RTTY contests, RMS station use, or intentional interference. 80m-BKUP: Center Freq 3570.0 kHz (Dial Freq 3568.5) 40m-BKUP: Center Freq 7070.0 kHz (Dial Freq 7068.5) Contingency When Unable to Send Messages to a Tactical Address: For all operations (nets, exercises, or actual events), if the tactical address is not enabled / not working, address the message to the callsign of the station you are connecting to, normally WG4PTP. TRAINING SECTION: To return within two to three weeks 73! David Blubaugh – ND1J GAARES-P2P Net Manager

Kent checked on him today, but we don’t what his plans are for tomorrow. Keep him in your prayers. I suggest you check groups IO or call Jody before going out tomorrow. Latest Update form the NWS
Gilmer EARS/ARES Members, Please read this carefully and stay safe. It looks like there will be a second round a little later. Bill Hello partners, OVERVIEW: A line of strong to severe storms will move through north and central Georgia this morning through the evening. Additionally, confidence is increasing that another round of showers and storms will develop behind this main line as a cold front pushes through this afternoon and early evening. NOTE: This will likely be the final email update regarding the severe weather, but we will post updates in our Slack channel as the event unfolds today. MAIN LINE OF STORMS: The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is maintaining an Enhanced Risk (level 3 out of 5) to Slight Risk (level 2 out of 5) for severe weather across much of north and central Georgia. Damaging straight-line wind gusts remain the primary threat, but the potential for brief tornadoes has increased. The hail threat is relatively low. See the SPC graphics below. Potential impacts will be downed trees and powerlines, as well as structural damage. An approximate timeline for the line of storms is as follows: Far northwest/far north-central Georgia: 7 AM - 10 AM I-85 corridor/metro Atlanta: 10 AM - 4 PM Central/east-central Georgia: 1 PM - 6 PM SECOND ROUND OF STORMS: A broken line of showers and storms will likely develop behind the aforementioned main line as a cold front pushes through. A few of these storms could be strong (possibly severe) with damaging wind gusts. FORECAST CONFIDENCE: Confidence in the occurrence of storms is high. Confidence in the timing and magnitude of the severe threat is medium to high.

NWS Possible Severe Weather Coming in Sunday and Monday
EAR /AREA Members Below is a severe weather report for the next few days. Our risk does not appears to very high but needs to be watched as in increases going into Monday Bill Hello partners, OVERVIEW: As the short-range models have come in, confidence has increased that a line of strong to severe storms will impact north and central Georgia early Monday morning through Monday evening. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible well ahead of the line this morning and afternoon, with a few strong (possibly severe storms) possible this afternoon. Stay tuned for additional updates today. SUNDAY (TODAY): Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible across north and central Georgia as early as mid-morning, but more so this afternoon. The main timeframe for storms to become strong to possibly severe is this afternoon and early evening, mainly in northwest Georgia (though not out of the question in central Georgia). The main hazard will be damaging wind gusts, but a brief tornado cannot be ruled out (the threat is low). This potential for strong to possibly severe storms is covered by a Marginal Risk and a Slight Risk that was issued by the Storm Prediction Center (SPC). See graphics below. EARLY MONDAY MORNING TO EARLY MONDAY AFTERNOON: Timing has been fine-tuned regarding the line of strong to severe storms that will push into extreme northwest Georgia between 5 AM to 7 AM Monday, before pushing southeast across the area. SPC now has an Enhanced Risk (level 3 out of 5) for severe weather across parts of north Georgia as the line of storms moves through. Damaging wind gusts, hail, and tornados are all possible. See SPC threat graphics below. A rough timeline for the line of storms is as follows (subject to change depending on the evolution of the line late tonight): Northwest Georgia: 5 AM - 11 AM I-85 Corridor: 8 AM - 12 PM Central and east-central Georgia: 11 AM - 3 PM THE REMAINDER OF MONDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING (3 PM AND LATER): The line of storms is expected to push through the remainder of Georgia in the afternoon, likely strengthening during peak daytime heating with possible redevelopment of thunderstorms behind the main line. Damaging wind gusts will be the main hazard, but a brief tornado and hail will be possible. Central Georgia will be the area that we will be keeping an eye on Monday afternoon. Again, SPC has an Enhanced Risk (level 3 out of 5) for severe weather across much of the forecast area. We will send an update if there are any changes to this outlook. HAZARDS AND IMPACTS: Sunday Damaging wind gusts could lead to downed trees and powerlines. Tornado threat and hail threat are LOW. Early Monday morning to early Monday afternoon Damaging wind gusts could lead to downed trees and powerlines. Severe hail (1" or greater in diameter) is possible. Brief tornadoes are possible. The remainder of Monday afternoon and evening Damaging wind gusts could lead to downed trees and powerlines. Brief tornadoes are possible. Severe hail (1" or greater in diameter) is possible. FORECAST CONFIDENCE: Confidence in the occurrence of storms is high. Confidence in the timing and magnitude of the severe threat is medium to high
