Wiring for DCC Update - Resistor Color Code and Dimming LEDs

I have added the general information regarding the dimming LED thread earlier this week to my website.? Specifically, I have added resistor color codes and ways to determine the resistor needed to dim an LED.? I have also linked this to the section on purchasing a resistor substitution box that was already on my website.? Links to these sections can be found in the What's New section of my website at:

Thank¡¯s everyone for helping me out in this situation. Now I can start adjusting leds on my signals and other devices , I have a better understanding of what¡¯s going on and not being in the dark.

Hi,
? I bought a substitution box and got it working.? Haven't used it in almost a decade.

? I tend to purchase my LEDs in large quantities (100 at a time) and have found that I
can just use the same resistor value I used the last time ... for most installations.? I
certainly always start with a 3k or larger when there is any doubt and feel like I need
to test this model this time.
? I always test for brightness with the LED actually installed in it's final location -
including any Krystal Klear that I commonly use for a "lens".
? I -never- use less than a 1k resistor no matter what the calculated best value is.
That's because the calculated value is for maximum brightness without risk of
blowing the LED due to over current (heat!) ... and I've never wanted maximum
brightness in any LED I've used in a model.? YMMV.
