Summer Field Day 2023 Invitation
Hello from Pam - KB3SWS. The 2023 Summer Field Day weekend is fast approaching, and will be held on Friday, June 23 through Sunday, June 25, 2023. You are invited to attend the Field Day event at the Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center (NCEEC), 5300 Turkey Tayac Place, Nanjemoy, MD 20662 (Charles County). For directions to the site, which includes the Nanjemoy Creek Observatory, go to the link on the Southern Maryland Astronomical Society (SMAS) website: http://www.smas.us/html/directions_to_smas.html. NOTE 1: NCEEC is a facility of the Charles County School District, therefore, it is a smoke free, alcohol free and drug free zone. The Field Day invitation will also be extended to other hams, aspiring hams and guests in Southern Maryland, so feel free to forward this information. NOTE 2: For those who want to set up early, we will be on site beginning on Friday, June 23. The gate will be unlocked at 11:00 AM. If you arrive on Friday, June 23, you have the option of staying overnight, or setting up your gear and returning on Saturday, June 24. The facility will be locked during overnight hours on Friday and Saturday. For Field Day operations, beginning on Saturday, June 24, we will open the gate by 9:00 AM, but you may arrive later in the day and depart at a time that fits your schedule. The gate will be open again by 9:00 AM on Sunday, June 25, if you are not staying overnight and returning for the second day, or attending on Sunday only. You may attend on Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday, for as long as your schedule allows. You are not required to stay overnight, in order to participate in our Field Day event. NOTE 2: NCEEC is a working school site, with staff members on location on weekdays and some weekends. It is also a gated facility. If you need to visit the site ahead of time to plan your setup, do not try to visit the site by yourself! You must contact me ahead of time, and I will make arrangements to meet you on site during a time that will not interfere with the staff*s activities. According to the ARRL Summer Field Day Guide at http://arrl.org/field-day, operations will begin at 1800 UTC (2:00 PM EDT) on Saturday, June 24 and end at 2059 UTC (4:59 PM EDT) on Sunday, June 25. FYI: This event at NCEEC is more casual, with regard to the contesting aspect. Individual hams may keep track of their contacts, but they will not necessarily submit results for awards. It is a good venue to practice setting up portable stations, and some use this as continuing training for EMCOMM drills. It is also a good venue to test new equipment, and to get help from each other, when trying to solve problems or learn about new equipment and/or software. Set up locations will include the pavilion area and the cabin area. There are trees for hanging antennas, and large fields for setting up antennas in both areas. This is a good place for that ※proof of concept§ setup that does not fit in your own yard. You can set up radios inside the pavilion, and/or cabins, and/or outside. There are outdoor picnic tables in both locations. There are tables and chairs inside the pavilion. You can also provide your own folding chairs, tables, etc., as desired. The pavilion has central AC. Food/Beverages: Friday, June 23 每 Please provide your own lunch for yourself. Shared Potluck Supper Saturday, June 24 每 Shared Potluck Breakfast Please provide your own lunch for yourself. Shared Potluck Supper Sunday, June 25 每 Shared Potluck Breakfast Shared Potluck Lunch All mealtimes are TBD. We will provide water, Coke, iced tea, coffee, and hot tea. If you prefer a different non-alcoholic beverage, please provide your own. I will coordinate the potluck meals, so let me know if you are planning to join us for any of those. Once we determine how many people will be attending the Shared Potluck Meals, we will fine tune the details of the food item(s) that each will provide. NOTE 4: NCEEC has a full kitchen, so you can keep food and beverage items in the refrigerator and/or freezer, and cook with the stove top, oven and microwave. If you plan to cook on sit
