SMARC Winter Field Day 2025 Invitation
Hello from Pam - KB3SWS. The 2025 Winter Field Day weekend is fast approaching, and will be held on Friday, January 24 through Sunday, January 26, 2025. You are invited to attend the Field Day event at the Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center (NCEEC), 5300 Turkey Tayac Place, Nanjemoy, MD 20662 (Charles County). For directions to the site, which includes the Nanjemoy Creek Observatory, go to the link on the Southern Maryland Astronomical Society (SMAS) website: http://www.smas.us/html/directions_to_smas.html. NOTE 1: NCEEC is a facility of the Charles County School District, therefore, it is a smoke free, alcohol free and drug free zone. The Field Day invitation will also be extended to other hams, aspiring hams and guests in Southern Maryland, so feel free to forward this information. NOTE 2: For those who want to set up early, we will be on site beginning on Friday, January 24. The gate will be unlocked at 12:00 PM. If you arrive on Friday, January 24, you have the option of staying overnight, or setting up your gear and returning on Saturday, January 25. The facility will be locked overnight. For Field Day, beginning on Saturday, January 25, we will open the gate by 9:00 AM, but you may arrive later in the day and depart at a time that fits your schedule. The gate will be open again by 9:00 AM on Sunday, January 26, if you are not staying overnight and returning for the second day, or attending on Sunday only. You are welcome to attend on Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday, for as long as your schedule allows. You are not required to stay overnight, in order to participate in our Field Day event. NOTE 2: NCEEC is a working school site, with staff and students on location on weekdays. It is also a gated facility. If you need to visit the site ahead of time to plan your setup, do not try to visit the site by yourself! You must contact me ahead of time, and I will make arrangements to meet you on site during a time that will not interfere with the classes. Winter Field Day operations will begin at 1600 UTC (11:00 AM EST) on Saturday, January 25 and end at 21:59 UTC (4:59 PM EST) on Sunday, January 26. FYI: This event is more casual, with regard to the contesting aspect. Individual hams may keep track of their contacts, but they will not necessarily submit results for awards. Members of clubs and/or organizations do have the option of working under a single call sign and submitting logs accordingly. It is also a good venue to practice setting up portable stations, and some use this as continuing training for EMCOMM drills. It is also a good venue to test new equipment, and to get help from each other, when trying to solve problems or learn about new equipment and/or software. Reminder: You do not have to provide your own gear, in order to participate! We will have a variety of stations to share. Set up locations will include the pavilion area and the cabin area. There are trees for hanging antennas, and large fields for setting up antennas in both areas. This is a good place for that ※proof of concept§ setup that does not fit in your own backyard. You can set up radios inside the pavilion, and/or cabins, and/or outside. There are outdoor picnic tables in both locations. There are tables and chairs inside the pavilion. You can also provide your own folding chairs, tables, etc., as desired. The pavilion has central heat. Food/Beverages: Friday, January 24 每 Please provide your own lunch for yourself. Potluck Supper 每 Contributions to be determined Saturday, January 25 - Potluck Breakfast Please provide your own lunch for yourself. Potluck Supper 每 Contributions to be determined Sunday, January 26 - Potluck Breakfast Potluck Lunch 每 Contributions to be determined All mealtimes are TBD. Once we determine how many people will be attending the Potluck meals, we will fine tune the details of the food i
