New Ham Question

Dawn KF?PUP All Messages By This Member #167 Good morning, all! I am a new ham with a new HT. I have not yet made a contact but not for lack of trying. I have 5 of our local repeaters programmed into my HT but thus far have heard nothing but what I believe is CW. Is anyone available to review these settings and tell me if I’ve made an error? Eric Presser - KD?CEN All Messages By This Member #168 What all repeaters do you have programmed? If you hold the PTT button for just a second and release it, do you hear the repeater? It should stay open for another half a second or so then Nunley. If you’re not hearing that, make sure your offset is correct and CTCSS tone is correct.? ?

Eric Presser - KD?CEN All Messages By This Member #174 Just checked the 146.940 and 444.425 to confirm both are working. They’re are probably your best bet with an HT from where you’re at. I’ll try to monitor this afternoon but probably won’t be in the area. I’m sure others will be monitoring if you get it figured out and throw your callsign out.? We also have a club meeting tomorrow night if you would like to bring it by we’ll figure it out.?

Eric Presser - KD?CEN All Messages By This Member #176 Being in a valley won’t help for sure. You should be able to get into the 444.425 via HT anywhere in town I believe. ?Also make sure your power is set to high.
