APRS and Foxhunts
Not trying to horn in on anything - just a thought. . . . Using APRS for "search and rescue" or foxhunting.? A team of foxhunters (searcher) would be around town (or search area), transmitting their location via APRS.? The "mapper" would locate them on a map of the search area.? ?When the searcher hears the beacon they would take a compass bearing and report that to the "mapper" who would draw a line on the map from the searchers location showing the reported bearing.? When each searcher reports and their bearing are drawn on the map, where the lines cross would be the location of the beacon (or at least very close).? (Disclaimer:? I have never personally been foxhunting.)
?
This would be an application of radio, communication and land-navigation skills.? A WIN-WIN-WIN.??We could have a "scavenger hunt" for beacons.? Team that finds the most beacons in an allotted time wins.??
?
When my sister was in Civil Air Patrol they sometimes did search and rescue for downed aircraft.? I have also seen APRS used to monitor cross country or marathon events.

Club Meeting Tuesday at 6pm
Club Meeting Tuesday night at 6pm. Please join if you can. Vice President, Craig AE0WA will moderate this meeting as I'll be out of town for training this week. Chris KC0F will have an ARES meeting following and I believe he plans on talking about an APRS Digipeater he has set up at his residence, which I'm sorry I'm going to miss. APRS can be a lot fun and very useful in an emergency, so be sure attend his presentation. I'd love to see us use it in the future!!
