Cheap Radio Alert
For anyone that loves a cheap radio, you might check out this prime day deal on a TYT handheld. They’re typically around $40 or a two pack for $60, today they’re $32. I think they’re a better performing radio than a baofeng, just my opinion.?

The 146.940 is online at its new home 8 miles south of West Plains. I worked it mobile all the way to the south end of Willow Springs before I had problems but still able to get into it with my base antenna from Willow (29 air miles away). So give it a try and give us your signal reports.?

June Meeting and Farmers Market Saturday
Thanks to everyone that turned out for the meeting Tuesday evening! I think it went great and we’ll be able to make lots of progress going forward.
Our Farmers Market display last Saturday turned out great. We made some HF contacts, and several new friends that will join our club on a regular basis. Because of the success, we’re going to do it again this Saturday and every 3rd Saturday for a while from 8-1 at Endurance Church in West Plains. Come be with us if you can, but we understand if you can’t. If you have radios you need help programming, bring them by and we’ll try to help you out. This has proven to be a great opportunity for us to reach out to our community and grow some interest. We can also use it as time to get together and help each other out and talk shop!!? Hope to see everyone Saturday.? |
June Meeting
This month’s club meeting will be held Tuesday, June 13th, 7:00pm at the Howell County Emergency Operations Center, located in the basement of the Howell County Health Department on Kentucky Avenue. Use the basement door on the North side of the building.
There is a lot to discuss and Craig KE0TKC will show us a nice end-fed antenna he built that we’ve been testing in a somewhat NVIS environment. It tunes up nicely on 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters. Look forward to seeing everyone. Eric? |
Farmers Market Saturday
Amateur Radio will be on display at the Farmers Market, this Saturday, June 10th from 8:00am to around noon at Endurance Church in West Plains. Come to our booth, bring your radios and play along. Last go around, we had several come by and express interest in our hobby. We’re hoping for more of the same this time. Come join in the fun before we hopefully get some much needed rain!

FCC now requires RX exposure survey
The FCC , on?May 3, 2021, enacted rules governing RF exposure and allowed a 2-year transition period for all RF emitting stations to comply. On?May 23, 2023?ALL transmitters operating in the United States must comply with the rules. There is an excellent article about this in the May issue of QST. In a nutshell, all stations must complete an RF exposure survey and maintain documentation of that survey for every transmitter and antenna they utilize. To help amateur radio operators comply with this, the ARRL has developed an on-line exposure calculator to do the calculations and print out the results for documentation. ARRL article |

Sierena spoke with Paula Perino about setting up a booth. We would need to fill out a form and pay $35 bucks for booth space. Did we pay a fee in the past as a non-profit? We might consider selling bottles of water cheap to try and recoup the $35. Thoughts?
