Double SOTA Goat Day April 3rd

 

This posting is meant to "alert" all our W0C friends about our Big Day!
?
Shane/N0QLR and I/KD8EQA are both at 997 activator points, and hope to join the herd this Thursday, April 3rd.? We will be activating The Pulverizer, W0C/SP-092.? Any activators who would like to join us, we will be at the trailhead/Wilkerson Pass parking lot at 7:30 AM.? Any chasers who would like to to chase us can monitor N0QLR-7 on aprs.fi.? Then, watch for our Spots.? Our Alerts are for 16:15 UTC, and we will be working all the bands (Shane on CW, me on SSB) in an attempt to work all our friends near and far (2m too for any local S2S or folks in the South Park region).? If anyone wants to join us for the Après Activation Party, meet us at Russ's Place in Divide, 2 hours after you see our QRT Spot on SOTAwatch... the first round's on me!

Based on what I see on the point forecast, and my experience a few times on the Pulverizer, I'd say wait until next week when the good weather returns.

SOTA and getting MG are supposed to be fun.

Yeah, I’m seeing the same weather forecasts you are and agree, next week would be better.? But Shane is only in town for a couple days (he moved to Virginia last year), and we really want to cross the finish line together.

?

And I’m the problem when it comes to peak selection.? I’ve only been doing Uniques so I could get the “All Uniques” endorsement on my SOTA Goat trophy… which means our peak selection is limited.? Aware of The Pulverizer’s reputation for serious deadfall, Black Mtn, FR-031, was our first choice, but when I did some scouting recently I discovered access to the trailhead this early in the season would probably require the use of a farmer’s tractor.? So, I think we’ll find a way to make The Pulverizer work.? If not, Friday will be our plan B, and you’ll see a new set of Alerts.? Maybe the Pulverizer experience will make for a good story… we’ll let you know.

Congrats to the both of you! I wish you well on activating too! If you end up activating on Friday I will try to chase you! I have exams tomorrow so I wont be able to chase : (.

My GF (KF0JTT) and I can get you SSB on 40 meters here in Montrose. ?Other bands go right over our heads from SP though I can't remember trying 80 from there to here. ?

We'll do our best to be near a radio tomorrow and/or Friday.
