VoIP Hurricane Net Secured on Wednesday 7/3/24 - 8 PM EDT for Major Hurricane Beryl & Impacts in Jamaica
Hello to all... The VoIP Hurricane Net secured operations on Wednesday 7/3/24 at 8 PM EDT for Major Hurricane Beryl and its impacts to Jamaica. The impacts to Jamaica were significant but not as catastrophic as Grenada, CarriaCou, Union Island and the Grenadines. Beryl downed trees, power lines, caused significant rain related flooding as well as coastal storm surge flooding. Notably, the roof was torn off of the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston Jamaica. In addition, 6Y5WW, William reported in from the Spanish Town, Jamaica EOC and 6Y5RW-Andrew also submitted reports into the net. A total of 37 reports were submitted between on-air Amateur Radio Operators, social media and online weather stations. Special thanks to Net Controls AE4WX-Mark, KK7AHR-George and to net management team members KC5FM-Lloyd and K2DCD-Dennis for their support of this net activation. A complete listing of reports can be seen on the VoIP Hurricane Net Report Viewer at the following link: https://www.voipwx.net/qilan/nhcwx/list_VOIP_records1?auth=OK The core of Beryl and the hurricane force conditions associated with Beryl should stay south of the coast of the Cayman Islands but tropical storm force conditions with gusts to hurricane force will be possible there overnight into Thursday Morning. No formal net is planned for Thursday for the Cayman Islands but the system will be monitored for any traffic especially for Thursday Morning. The VoIP Hurricane Net will be active again Friday Morning for Beryl and impacts to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico and Belize. The final VoIP Hurricane Net activation for Beryl will likely be Sunday into Monday Morning for potential landfall as a hurricane in Northeast Mexico/Southeast Texas. The VoIP Hurricane Net Management Team will closely monitor the progress of Beryl. Thanks to all for their continued support of the VoIP Hurricane Net! 73,Rob-KD1CY. Tropical Storm Beryl Forms in the Atlantic - VoIP Hurricane Net Activation Likely Early Monday Morning for the Caribbean Islands
Hello to all... Tropical Storm Beryl formed in the Atlantic late Friday Evening and is expected to intensify into a hurricane threatening the Caribbean Islands late Sunday Night into Monday. A Hurricane Watch is now in effect for Barbados. The VoIP Hurricane Net will likely activate early Monday Morning for Beryl and impacts to the Caribbean Islands. Additional VoIP Hurricane Net activations are likely later in the week depending on Beryl's track towards other islands in the Caribbean Sea. Advisories on Beryl can be seen off the Atlantic Tropical Products menu of the voipwx.net web site, via our VoIPWXNet Facebook and Twitter social media feeds or via the National Hurricane Center web site at the following link: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov Elsewhere in the tropics, in the Eastern Tropical Atlantic, an area of low pressure several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands has a low chance 20% for development in 48 hours and a medium chance 60% for development over the next 7 days. This will bear watching as it will have plenty of warm water and potentially conducive conditions for development as this system is behind Beryl by a considerable distance. An area of disturbed weather in the Northwest Caribbean Sea will move into the Southwest Gulf of Mexico and has a medium chance (40%) for development. At this time, even if the system develops, it is not expected to intensify into a hurricane. The Atlantic Tropics are quite active inline with seasonal forecasts. All Amateur Radio Operators along coastal areas of the Atlantic should use this time to prepare for eventualities the hurricane season will bring. Updates on VoIP Hurricane Net Activation for Beryl for the Monday timeframe will be posted to the email list on Sunday and updated on tonight's VoIP Hurricane Prep Net at 800 PM EDT. Thanks to all for their continued support of the VoIP Hurricane Net! 73,Rob-KD1CY. Director of Operations for the VoIP Hurricane Net

Tropical Storm Alberto and Atlantic Tropical Update - Thursday 6/20/24 - 830 AM ET
Hello to all... The following is a Tropical Storm Alberto and Atlantic Tropical Update that we wanted to provide ahead of Amateur Radio Field Day weekend and given the fact the VoIP Hurricane Prep net is canceled due to Amateur Radio Field Day weekend. Tropical Storm Alberto formed out of Potential Tropical Cyclone-1 yesterday and has made landfall in Northeast Mexico. Alberto remained below hurricane strength as expected but has caused flooding from rainfall, coastal flooding at the coast and pockets of wind damage. This was handled at the local/regional level by ARES/AUXCOMM/SKYWARN groups and equivalent groups in Mexico. Alberto is expected to dissipate over the mountains of Northeast Mexico in the next 24 hours. Elsewhere in the Atlantic Tropics, another system behind Alberto will be in the Southwest Gulf of Mexico in the Bay of Campeche and has a low 20% chance of becoming a tropical depression in 48 hours and a medium 50% chance of becoming a depression in 7 days. This will bear watching as we get into later this weekend and early next week. Another low pressure area in the Southwest Atlantic Ocean has a 40% chance of development in 48 hours and in 7 days as it approaches the East Georgia and Northeast Florida coasts and a recon plane will investigate this system if necessary today. This low pressure is expected to go over land on Friday preventing further development. The Atlantic Tropical Weather Outlook that covers these areas of disturbed weather can be seen on the voipwx.net web site under Atlantic Tropical Products, via our voipwxnet Facebook and Twitter feeds and via the National Hurricane Center (NHC) web site at the following link: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ The VoIP Hurricane Net Management Team continues to monitor all developments in the Tropics. National Hurricane Center (NHC) Issuing Advisories on Potential Tropical Cyclone-1 (PTC-1) in the Southwest Gulf of Mexico
Hello to all... The National Hurricane Center has started issuing "Potential Tropical Cyclone" advisories on the area of disturbed weather in the Southwest Gulf of Mexico. If this area of disturbed weather becomes better organized, it could become the first Tropical Storm of the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season. If it were to become a tropical storm, it would be named Alberto. Tropical Storm Watches are now posted for portions of the Texas and Northeastern Mexico coast line. Advisories on PTC-1 can be seen off the main menu of the VoIP Hurricane Net web site under Atlantic Tropical Products, via the voipwxnet Facebook and Twitter Social media feeds or the National Hurricane Center web site via the following link: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov At this time, this area of disturbed weather is expected to be a fairly weak tropical storm so no activation of the VoIP Hurricane Net is currently anticipated, however, the science of how systems intensify and weaken is not exact and so the VoIP Hurricane Net management team will closely monitor the progress of this system for changes. People living in the Tropical Storm Watch area should prepare for flooding issues as heavy rain is expected to cause flooding and some strong winds could bring scattered power outages. ARES, SKYWARN and AUXCOMM groups in the area and equivalent Amateur Radio groups in Mexico should seek advice from local/regional leadership on any activation and support at that level. The VoIP Hurricane Net management team will continue to closely monitor developments in the Tropics. Thanks to all for their continued support of the VoIP Hurricane Net! 73,Rob-KD1CY. Atlantic Tropical Update - Sunday Evening 6/16/24 & VoIP Hurricane Prep Net - Saturday 6/22/24 Cancelled for Field Day Weekend
2
Hello to all... The Atlantic Tropics have a couple areas of disturbed weather being monitored, one of which has a high chance of development in the southwest Gulf of Mexico within 7 days and the other area of disturbed weather north of the Central Bahamas as a low chance of development. Both areas of disturbed weather will be monitored by the VoIP Hurricane Net Management Team. Atlantic Tropical updates can be found off the main menu of the https://www.voipwx.net web site, via our voipwxnet Facebook/Twitter feeds or via the National Hurricane Center web site at the following link: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov The VoIP Hurricane Prep Net for Saturday 6/22/24 will be canceled due to Field Day weekend. If one of the areas of disturbed weather were to become a hurricane and threaten a land area, the VoIP Hurricane Net would activate as needed to support WX4NHC, the Amateur Radio station at the National Hurricane Center. The VoIP Hurricane Net Management team will continue to monitor the Tropics for any development. Thanks to all for their continued support of the VoIP Hurricane Net! 73,Rob-KD1CY.
