Tucson Modernism Week, October 3-11 (starts this week!)
Hello All, ? Looking forward to seeing you all again at the 3rd annual Tucson Modernism Week.? Once again, we¡¯re celebrating the architecture, design, and popular culture of the postwar era. There is something for everyone including an all new lineup of lectures on a wide variety of topics, and 2 swanky parties. Look for a completely different collection of historic modernist architecture on the Home Tour, and more immaculately restored trailers at the Vintage Trailer Show. Charles Phoenix is coming from L.A. to ?entertain us at The Loft.? It¡¯s hard to pick a favorite, but I know I¡¯ll be at Martin Treu, who is flying in from Chicago to do a presentation on the topics we discuss here the most: the roadside commercial landscape of the 50¡¯s and 60¡¯s - stores, signs, roadways, etc. ? More details at the website: ? www.TucsonMod.com ? As usual, many of the educational events are free and open to the public. ?Proceeds from ticketed events will benefit the Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation. ? Thanks for your interest - see you there! ? Carlos |

thanks for this info. will definitely check out some of the functions. ( i was the one who was trying to give you a place to put cactus screen a place to store) wish i woulda known about this last year. moved back from s.f. with lots of grandmas 50's cool furniture and sold them for peanuts at yard sales,( and being ripped off by collectors )because no one wanted to pay much for anything. i LOVE the midcentury stuff. all of it. but moved back to tucson to take care of family matters and the home has too much western stuff in it, so just sold my stuff. love tiki too! the website is not very friendly to look up. it needs a schedule to look up all the events and the places they are at, at the same time.instead you have to look up one thing at a time to see where it is. not raggin, just sayin. wish there was a meet and greet at beginning of event ( like friday) for cocktails, like maybe at kon tiki? for free. or in middle of trailers? this seem slike a good group to meet people at but looks like the only event to meet is at end and i dont have the funds for party at end ( $55). i coulda had people over at my ranch house , made in 50's 60's, but it is a brick ranch style house and not like 50's vintage. i guess i am just yakkin to you. also am wondering what could be happening for a drive in ? i have a small projector and showed a movie at a car show once. would like to do it again, but it is not big enough for lots of cars, probably better for people and chairs or bikes. i miss the drive inns and drive inn restaurants. anyways. just sayin hi talk to ya sometime. i grew up here, i was a special events producer for over 30 years and am searching for work. so if someone needs any help, let me know. i like FUn stuff to do and would gladly help put this event on or something FUN in the future.. thanks david bushey . -------------------------------------------- On Tue, 9/30/14, mistercopacetic@... Hello David,
There are lots of free events at TMW where VanishingTucson folks could have a meet n greet.? First, to see the schedule of events, go back to the website and click on "schedule", see?
One plan would be to attend the Martin Treu presentation this Friday, then meet afterward at the Expo Opening.? I'll be there. Saturday the 4th we could hang out at the Miracle Mile talks. Another great place for a free VanishingTucson meet n greet would be at the Chase reception and fashion show next Thursday.? I have to teach a class and can't attend, but you should go anyway!? David you can still help out the effort to bring a new drive in theater to Tucson.? George is running the show now and will probably contact you privately. Hope to see bunches of you this Friday, and all week long at the various events. Thanks for your interest! Carlos |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Carlos...thanks for the reminder!? Going to be a great weekend...vintage car show in Oro Valley & I'll definitely be at the vintage trailer show Sunday.? Since you're so close to this, which event/speaker do you think would be the best to catch to see/hear the most about the architectural elements & style? ? BTW, still waiting on that neon book!? :) ? Hello Jeff,
As of Tuesday afternoon, you can still choose from at least 5 architectural presentations, so it just depends on who you like best.? There are a bunch of light, popular culture events if you get tired of looking at buildings.? There will be fashion at the Thursday night reception at Chase. Marshall Shore's Friday presentation on signs is sure to be very entertaining. Keith's 3D slide show on Saturday night will blow your mind.? They are amazing!? You can't see these without a special projector and a special screen.? These are not the red/blue kind.? Glorious Kodachrome!? I now where I'll be at 11:30 Saturday. schedule??? ? See you there! Thanks, Carlos |
