Re: TTT Truck Terminal NOT closing
Hi Carlos,
This is the first I have seen of your reply.? Sorry for the confusion.? The bulldozer was parked at the ORIGINAL TTT Truck Stop (the old home of Rural Metro Fire) at 4521 E. Benson Hy.? Nothing has happened, no demo. I was not referring to the current TTT at Craycroft and I-10.? By the way one of the photos has the ORIGINAL TTT has the wrong street address. Thanks for all you do! Re: migration to Groups.io has begun!
Hi, Carlos, This is Terry Morton in Chicago. I¡¯m from Tucson. Born and raised. I¡¯m a longtime member and would like to remain in the group. However, my email addresses have switched over the years and I¡¯m not sure how Groups.io will work and if email addresses will be focal. Just want to make sure I¡¯m able to both migrate over and know that I have and will be able to access the content and have the content access me. Would you request an updated email address from me?? Thanks, Terry

Re: This group will be DELETED in December
Hello Mark, Thanks for your offer.? I would have migrated this group over to Groups.io, but for some reason I am not receiving their confirmation email required to set up the account.? I've checked my spam folder.? I've contacted their support, but get no reply.? Do you have any ideas? Thanks, Carlos ---In vanishingtucson@..., <marklein@...> wrote : In case you haven't heard, Yahoo Groups is being retired and in December ALL content here will be deleted. Modernism Week is here!
Hello All, Just a quick note to let everyone know that Tucson Modernism Week is here again! ?If you're not familiar, Tucson Modernism Week is dozens of events, all week long, all over Tucson, celebrating different aspects of the bygone postwar period. ?The same things we talk about here: Mid-century homes, buildings, signs, fashions, car culture, popular culture, design, etc., etc. There's almost too much for one person to see, but it's worth a try. ?Some events are free and others require tickets. ?Remember, your ticket cost goes directly to benefit the Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation which works all year long, usually behind the scenes, to save the things in Tucson we all love. Here's a great way to contribute to a good cause, and get some entertainment and education at the same time.?? Looking forward to seeing you there again this year. Thanks, Carlos Please go explore the website and see all the activities. |
Re: Goldwater¡¯s at El Con
Hello Xavier, I've been looking all over for the fabled El Con photos that I told you about, to no avail.? I'm referring to a bunch of 1980's era color interior photos that were on a website about 10 years ago. The site seems to be gone.? Maybe someone here knows what I'm talking about.? Anyway, I did find a couple shots, but I'm having trouble uploading them.? I need to transfer this group to a better platform, probably Groups.io.? I'll do that this month.? Everyone stay tuned.? I appreciate your patience and continued interest. Cheers, Carlos ---In vanishingtucson@..., <xavieromack@...> wrote : Does anyone have any photos of the entrance to it that was inside of the mall? |

This map -- -- (~3.5MB, ~30"W x 24"H, TIFF format) depicts the 1915 platting of the former Court Street Cemetery. The specific burial areas for various associations (firemen, Odd Fellows, &c) are noted on the lots on Eleventh Avenue (NB: Redmen were a fraternal organization, this is not where Native Americans were buried). Other maps can be found at -- -- which is quite the treasure trove. Cheers, Les. - - - - - - - - - - - - - On Saturday, September 14, 2019, 3:46:06 AM UTC, santarita55@... Hi, all:

I have a colleague who bought a house in Dunbar- Spring not long ago. I found an old map somewhere on City's website showing how the Court Street Cemetery would be platted for sale and development. Turns out my colleague's house is in the section reserved for firefighters, which I took as a good omen against that particular household hazard. The City's online MapTucson tool has aerial photos from, I think, 1940, that show houses going up in parts of the cemetery while other parts still have the perimeter trees and what appear to be walking paths between the gravesites (presumably relocated). Alvernon & 22nd St
The long-abandend Shell convenience store and car wash at Alvernon and 22nd St is being razed to build another Dutch Brothers drive-through. A year or so a go, there was an article in one of the local papers about the possibility of a McDonald's going in on that corner. The project was not approved because not enough land could be acquired from the surrounding neighborhood to allow for sufficient parking spaces. It looks like there is plenty of land being cleared now, so something must have changed. |
Re: Farmer Johns
Hello All, I believe they used to have artists from UA do retouching of the original artwork, but apparently not recently.? They could uncover the originals, or re-create them from photos, here: Enjoy! Carlos ---In vanishingtucson@..., <billahrens@...> wrote : It was repainted to make up for fading. TTT Truck Terminal NOT closing
Hello All, Thanks to Bob for letting me know he saw bulldozers surrounding our beloved 1966 TTT Truck Stop, home of the giant slice of hot pie with a scoop of ice cream on top. A quick call confirmed that the bulldozers are NOT there for demolition. Whew!? I'm so glad. Bob said he tried to post this here and had problems, so I am definitely going to move this group to another platform.? Yahoo has dropped all of it's support. The move should be relatively easy for everyone, and we will retain the entire history of messages and photos.? Stay tuned. Thanks for all your interest and contributions, Carlos |
