Re: Digest Number 60

Yup, I vaguely remember it. I grew up around that
area. It was located right next to the Cactus Bowl,
on the lot where the 76 Gas station currently is
located.

I was a pretty small when it shut down. Small enough
that, unfortunately, I never got to slide on it
(height requirements). If I recall correctly, a girl
got injured on it, parents sued and it shut down
shortly thereafter. Probably around early - mid 70's.

It was a tall slide that slid straight down (no
curves, or turns), but had bumpy waves on it. Kids
would sit in burlap/canvas-like bags and go straight
down. It was pretty tall, if I remember correctly.
Then again being so young, almost everything seemed
gigantic back then!

I think there was also a very small merry-go-round on
the same lot for the younger children. I don't think
there was much more rides than that.

I can ask my older brothers and see if they can
remember any more details about the slide, since they
were big enough back then to ride on it.

Thanks for keeping the memories going, Carlos! =)

Happy Sunday.

=)

Subject: Anyone remember the "Giant Slide" or "Goofy
Golf" on Alvernon?

Hi All,

I was looking at the 1970 Yellow Pages, and noticed
the Cactus "Giant
Slide" 1550 S. Alvernon, and "Goofy Golf" at 1450 S.
Alvernon. These
were both before my time. Anyone go to these? Were
they next to the
Bowling Alley? With the Drive In across the street,
what more could a
kid want?

Carlos
