Group Centrality

Hello Group,

I am Roberto an user of Ucinet, and I have one question about a tool, if someone can help me.

How can i find the degree of a subset of nodes chosen by me within a larger group?

The group centrality tool I have seen in Ucinet, finds the group with the highest centrality among all the nodes of the group.

For my research I need a command that would allow me to tell Ucinet to calculate the degree, Bc and Cc of a sub-group defined by me within the total.

Thanks

SNA classes online

Hi all,

I was wondering what you know regarding the online course offering of Social Networks Analysis at the undergraduate level. I work at Mid Sweden University in ?stersund and for the first time this semester we are offering an intro to SNA online. We may have the opportunity to offer a second, more advanced level, and I would like to put out some feelers and thus tapping your experience. I looked at coursera and saw that there is one MOOC on SNA using Python. We are social scientists and approach SNA from a theoretical perspective as users, though of course the class includes practical component using the software for analysis and the idea is to build on that on the second, more advance course. Would you think that there might be broder demand for an online class on SNA using UCINET? European students can take classes in Swedish unis at no fee, third country students have to pay fees. The classes would be 7.5 ECTS each.?

Thanks in advance,

Evie

Re: Data File Folder in UCINET for Mac [1 Attachment]

Hi Antonia,

Are you running UCINET on IOS or have you bootcamped your computer? Or, as Roberto is saying, are you running a virtual machine on it?

Dear Roberto,
Thank you for your answer! I mamaged to get UCINET working with WineBottler/XQuartz, so far is working good.
Many greetings,
Antonia

Thanks for this David. F1 does work on my windows computer, even though the menu item does not. That's all I need.

No luck on Ubuntu though. I get an address violation error message.

Best,

Have you tried Fn F1?

This might work.

On my installation of this version clicking directly on the help link did not work, but Fn F1 worked.

I think Steve is going to fix this in the next version.

Hi,

I just installed the latest version of Ucinet (6.665) on my new Windows

having the same problem with the one on my Linux machine (also 6.665).
Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Thanks!

Network - Group Centrality - Measure

Hello Group,

I am Roberto, can you help me explaining how does it work the Ucinet tool "Group Centrality"?

I have to calculate the group centrality of some groups of nations inside of my network. I have an adjacent matrix of 164 nations and i try to use that tool following the help guide, but the results are always 0.

To understand better, as attachments: Group Indicator Matrix, example of adjacent matrix that i used and output that Ucinet give me.

Kind Regards

Roberto Urbani

Not complicated. To give you a start, see this (terrible) video:

Once you have the 2-mode matrix, you can either run 2-mode centrality, or go to Data|Affiliations and create a 1-mode dataset

Hi all,

I am creating a network to look at author to author connections (co-authorship) on a specific topic in a specific region. This is about 800 papers with up to 9 authors per paper. I am interested in determining which authors are common co-authors on this topic, so I want to create an author-to-author network to run degree and betweenness centrality measure. I also want to look at clustering by different attributes, like authors' affiliations/country of affiliation.

See below the data (two tables below) as it's currently formatted. Can someone give a suggestion for how to most easily structure the data to yield an author-to-author network? (PS - there was a similar question about 4 years ago but I am unable to view the response so I'm asking again.)

thanks!!
