Our next contra dance will be this Friday, May 2 at the Phillips Recreation Center in Urbana. This will be Jonathan Sivier's Super Swinging Seventieth Soiree. Admission is FREE so come and join us. The band will be The Young and the Fretless with Tom Bassett, Lyle Konigsberg, Rolf Pendall & Rebecca Grosser. The caller will be Karen Jackson from St. Louis. As usual there will be a short introduction to contra dance at 7:30 and the dance will start at 8. Bring your friends to join in the fun and snacks to share at the break. Our next contra dance will be on Friday, April 18. In a change from our usual pattern of holding the 2nd dance of the month at Channing-Murray, this dance will be held at the Phillips Center. Dear Urbana Country Dancers, During the second half of the contra dance on March 7 one of the dances I was calling began to fall apart. I attempted to fix the problems with the dance. Whether or not this was a good idea in general, I know I was wrong in the way I handled the situation. I should have just stopped the dance and either started again or moved on to another dance. I know that I spoiled many peoples' enjoyment of the dance and caused distress for some. I am very sorry for the way I handled things. It was never my intention to harm or alarm anyone.
