Excellent net tonight!

Jason Turcyn - KE4CPC

Good evening group, I just wanted to say I think we had a great net tonight. Whatever we did differently, let's try to keep it this way!

With regard to the question of the night, I'd like to suggest we discuss the topic more broadly and perhaps even start the discussion here on the reflector. Tonight's question was "What is a Beam antenna. Give some examples." I think in order to keep folks engaged in the net, you might also ask folks' opinions on their favorite types of if they've ever even used a beam antenna. What are the pros and cons of the beam antenna? One obvious pro is the amount of gain it provides not only to the transmit side but also the receive side. Cons would be that it is not omnidirectional so it requires physically moving or rotating the antenna in order to contact stations not located in its path. other pros or cons might be price range as compared to say, a mag-mount or rubber duck antenna, considering most beams require a mast with a rotor.

If the net coordinator agrees, let's start the discussion of next week's question here and try to wrap it up come next week's net time?

And on that note, I will be at Tyler Nature Center (TXPWD Division office) on Wednesday morning around 10 or 11 AM if anyone cares to join me for

I will be activating Park K-6588 at the fishing pavilion with my Yaesu FT-857D and G5RV Jr. There is no park admission unlike state parks, so feel free to come and join me! If you would like to assist, I will gladly share the radio. If you are not licensed yet but have the interest in operating, you can still operate as a third-party operator and I will guide you on it. Be prepared for a pile-up though because this park is not regularly covered, so it comes across as a park not yet hunted by most folks!
