Re-login failures with TWS auto-restart option.


 

Hi All,

I've been experiencing problems with the TWS auto-restart options, I'm getting some type of "token error" and have to completely shut down TWS and manually re-start it and manually log on.? It's sporadic, maybe every couple of days and has been happening for the last week or so.

This is on both production and paper accounts.? Haven't changed anything (to the best of this fading memory).

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I get a? "soft token" error where it complains about expecting a different token every sunday. I assume this is when it expires the week long session token. Is that what you are seeing?

Thanks for the input.

Can't swear to it, but yeah, the "soft token" error might be it.

I just rebooted the computer yesterday evening about six, so it shouldn't complain about the Sunday re-boot.

I had the problem today Monday 03/23/22 at about 5:20 and 5:25 PM NYT when both the paper and production systems are supposed auto-restart.? Both instances of TWS are running on the same box to save data access fees.? Lots of cycles available.

That's about the time when our TWS restarts take place as well, Lou and we did not have an issue for a long time (maybe a couple years).

Are you running "standalone/offline" versions of TWS or the automatically updating versions? Auto restart may fail if TWS decides that it needs to auto-update as well. And it looks like new TWS versions must have been released within the last day or two (e.g. since i last checked on Sunday). .

We run standalone versions only.

I'm running stand-alone older TWS version Build 981.3c, Jun 29, 2021.? Win7. Old dual-processor Lenovo E545, 12GB RAM, 256GB SSD.

It's not a deal breaker since I'm usually around to check.? I'll keep you updated if it happens again, especially this week.

I had two re-login failures with TWS auto-restart option this week, Thursday and today Friday.

They all occurred about 5:25 PM NYT, botn in test and prod.

Anyone else having these problems?

I had a successful TWS auto-restart at 5:15pm Eastern today, TWS version 981.3l.

All our TWS restarts worked without a hitch, Lou. They take place 5 min after yours at 16:30 Central,

But we had an incident during the maintenance window on Tuesday April 5 at around 23:15 Central.

TWS briefly looses connection during the maintenance window for one to five minutes pretty much every night:
  • Connection is lost around 23:15 Central and a series of code 1100 messages arrive? ("Connectivity between IB and the TWS has been lost")
  • TWS eventually reconnects automatically and confirms that with a code 1102 message ("Connectivity between IB and TWS has been restored- data maintained ")
  • But this is not a TWS restart and everything takes place without user intervention required

On Tuesday, TWS lost connection at around 23:15 Central but did not send a 1100 message. Eventually, around 23:23 Central a "Re-login" box popped up and required a user interaction to re-login. Once clicked, TWS logged in and functioned properly. This has not happened in a long time (not for more than a year).

Yes, I get the same maintenance window stuff same as you every night, but we reconnect automatically with no problem.

My logs show I was connected and running perfectly until the shutdown and TWS auto-restart .

The only thing I can think of is that I'm running Win7 - is anyone else running it with no problems?

I just had the auto-relogin fail with "Login failed - Soft token=0 received instead of expected permanent".

Shutting down and logging in manually was successful.

Hi all

Did you guys ever manage to resolve this issue? I'm running into the same issue now, AWS EC2 Windows 9. I've tried changing my auto restart time from midnight to 5:15pm (AEST UTC+10)? to no avail, thanks


 

Hi Dan,

Didn't really "solve it".

But it "went away" somehow and I didn't pay it any heed.

I just re-cycled TWS when it happened.

had to deal with this strange feature, too.

Recently discovered, that IBC provides a ?Solution?:

After changing
`ExistingSessionDetectedAction=primary`
the TWS seems to restart? seamless.
