I own a 1986 Toyota-based Damon Escaper 21ft. It has the 2.4

camper since May of 2000. This past summer I traveled from
Ohio to
Seattle Washington. Other stops included Mt. Rushmore,
Yellowstone,
Teddy Roosevelt N.P., and Olympia N.P. My camper gets
between 17-20
mpg and has every option except a generator. My father owns
a 1978
Toyota 17ft camper and my grandfather owns a 1986 21ft and
1977 Toyota
Chinook pop-up as well. We all have around 100,000 miles on
our units
and could not be more pleased with the platform. The units
are easy
to work on and get very good mileage and very dependable. As
a family
we have traveled from Ocean to Ocean in these little units. The
size
and versatility of these units are great, they are very easy to
drive
on the open road or in city trafic. I have been unable to find any
groups that are designed for toyota based mini-campers so I
decided to
start this one. Please share your travels and experiences.
Hello Mr. Moderator; I just got "migrated" over here from the
other group, and thought I'd mention that - like your dad - I also
own a 1978 17' Toy MiniMH: an EZ Ryder, what's his?
I'm doing an extensive restoration on mine: just bought the 1-Ton
Axle from Chuck, and will add Monroe Gas Magnum Shocks -
and maybe new Monroe struts.
Also, because of severe leak damage from the roof vent, I'm
rebuilding the entire flat part of the roof (aluminum framing); the
back wall; around the door; and both outside walls of the
bathroom. Because of rust holes in the skin, I've decided to
cover the entire skin with TPO over wood paneling.
The manufacturer (Alpha Systems) recommends 1/4-inch
plywood - but that seems like unecessary weight to me.
Wouldn't 1/8-inch paneling work - or do they make a 1/16-inch or
3/32-inch plywood? I'm going to talk with Alpha this morning; but
just thought I'd get the recommendations of fellow Toy
enthusiasts/experts.
