Gas tank capacity?

I've pushed my 3.0 45 miles past dead empty several times.? Chickened out at that point,? but think there's about a gallon left. Unofficial reserve lol On Wed, Oct 4, 2023, 6:34 PM DaveM <davemisunas@...> wrote: Thanks... the needle was a bit below the empty mark... good to know there is another 2 gallons in tank. What do you think of a product like berryman or sea foam? On Thu, Oct 5, 2023, 9:09 AM rz <zaveson@...> wrote: not likely anything gets by the fuel filter, but changing it can be a problem |
No fuel treatment is going to dissolve chunks. And no the fuel filter is not in jeopardy from running it dry. The fuel pump however is.
Inside the tank and the only thing protecting it from debris is literally a sock that might have already degraded to nothing. We do have another not too difficult option. Our tanks have a drain. By draining the tank and flushing 5 gallons through it with the drain open you will see some bad gunk come out. Only other option is completely removing the tank and have it professionally cleaned big job and expensive. I strained all that gas with another sock, aka paint straining bag and put it back in. I hadn't been having problems but at the time I was commuting once a month to a job 6 hours away. Time constraints and very remote roads meant there were times when I needed to push my fuel limits father than I would have liked. Worked though, never ran out. Linda S |
