cover gasket replaced along with the oil pan gasket. That seemed to stop all the leaking EXCEPT! Now I notice one more leak [red colored] under the unit. I as yet do not know the location . . . do you know is there a "pan gasket" for the tranny? I do not do the work myself, however, maybe I have the same thing you describe? Is this work that can only be done by a transmission dealer? Let me know -=dr=- ----- Original Message -----

Me and my friend Scotty just got back from a nice trip out to the
desert. We left Sunday morning and drove to Anzaberego. I had never been there before. Alot of the cactus's were still in bloom..It wasn't too hot yet..so it was just a nice all around trip there. We spent the night there and drove on Monday morning to Julian. I had never been there either.. A nice little town.. it is really a nice time to be traveling. The wild flowers are blooming still all over the road sides.. We drove from there to San Diego. Where we stayed boon docking until Wednesday. It was a nice trip. Scotty took his 19ft Itasca, while I took my 21ft Rogue. It was the 2nd trip I have taken with the Rogue. It had a virbration noise between 55 and 60. While on the trip the rear tranny seal started to leak some. SO when I got home I pulled out the drive shaft and found the Slip Yoke (the part of the drive shaft that slides into the transmission) was worn on one side. I went to North Hollywood Toyota and bought a new one. THey told me that the reason it wore out is that the bushing in the rear of the transmission needs to be replaced. I remember I think Dale advising about the bushing wearing out and then wearing out the whole transmission. Today I am pulling off the tailshaft of the transmission and replacing the bushing, the seal, the yoke on the driveshaft and 2 universal joints. I think the whole deal will cost me less then $200.00. Mainly so cheap because I am doing all the work myself. None of it has been hard, I think anyone could do it. Otherwize I think the motorhome ran great. and got 16-17 mpg. which to me is great for something of its size. I will let all know how it turned out after I get it all back together. It is interesting and sometimes frustrating going through a vehicle and repairing every last thing that either has gone bad from sitting or from lack of maintance. I Don't know if this is caused by anothing but that it is really heavy and maybe something is poorly designed. but I love my Toyota, don't get me wrong, but I don't think anything is perfect.. have a great day all..TOmmy |
