Hi Everyone,
Thanks to the folks who commented about the mph and wind resistance.
It looks like the idea is to travel slower and see the landscape.
Actually this unit was probably manufactured when the national speed
limit was 55 mph. We New Mexicans are a fast bunch with the speed
limit on I-25 being 75 mph! (I usually drive 80 mph!) I will need
to
be careful driving in the Southwest since we "can" have quite a bit
of windy weather.
The door is on the back of the unit and I'm wondering how to attach
hardware so that I can carry my bicycle. I thought of just putting
it inside (which I'll do for now since I'm planning on traveling to
Tucson at the end of the week), but wanted to put it on the back for
the long trips.
I'm also trying to figure out how to get "online" when I travel. I
have a laptop and a cell phone that has an option for connecting my
ISP. However, the connection is s-l-o-w and connects at 19.9. This
wouldn't be good for "surfing", but I could at least download my
messages and work "offline".
The only thing that is missing is a "dog" to travel with. I had a
beautiful small (35 lbs.) black chow-chow that finally lost her
battle with kidney disease just before Christmas. She was only five
and a wonderful traveling companion!
Sorry to "rub it in", but the weather here was 80 degrees, sunny,
and
beautiful.

We too run 80 here in Michigan, and I have driven
a lot in NM. The trucks are always running too
fast. IMHO 55, on the Interstate is way too slow to
drive anything. What with the fast Trucks and merging
trafic, you are an accident waiting to happen.
I seldom
drive my machine less then 65 on the I. (except uphill,
far right slow truck lane, OD out, 55mph Min.) As you
gain more experence with your rig, you will be able
to drive it at ease at 65mph. The machine is built
for it.
That gust you feel is the big wall of air, pushed
out ahead of the upcoming truck. After they pass,
and when you follow one, you will feel a twisting
vortex that will buffet your machine. As an old
VW Microbus driver this was no surprise when I drove
My Sunrader. In fact the Sunrader is very stable.
As Howard says, watch for those trucks in the mirrors.
When My friend and went down to Fla, this year, we were
turned away from two state parks because they would
not allow his dog. (a really nice Brittny). We found
one that was ok, but he had to get a "Vet Cert" before
we could camp. (Manitee State Park).
Bikes: I too have full rear deck that opens, so I bought
fold down spare tire rack (from JC Whitney @ $24). I built
holders for the two bikes from a peice of 2x4. When the
bikes are off the rack folds down so that the door will
open.
Many private CGs have phone jacks. Check out rvclub.com
and get on their list. There are lots of discussions on
this subject.
