Re: Compressor for rear air bags, 1991 Warrior

Right, but I was just wondering if there was a specific one that any of you have experience with in our toyhouses.

Compressor for rear air bags, 1991 Warrior

Anyone have experience with or recommendations for an air compressor for the rear air bags, maybe something with a gauge that mounts in the cab, and either automatic on-off to keep the bags pumped up, or a switch next to the gauge to turn the compressor on and off?

Currently I carry a Ryobi air compressor and have to crawl down and pump up the bags every few days which is mildly annoying, and I'd prefer something I can control from the cab.

Thanks...

Re: misfire issue

@DonB

You bring up a good point. Misfire under acceleration is so strongly associated with ignition system issues, I forgot that
a sensor input problem could also produce similar symptoms.

As I noted above, it's probably better to do a thorough diagnosis at this point rather than replacing (increasingly expensive) parts
until the problem is corrected.

Selling our '84 Huntsman

Hi Group,

Well, my wife and I just finished a conversation about selling our old '84 huntsman.

We picked this up a few years ago so we could (group-ie) our favorite rock band across the country (some of you will remember).? We drove from Dallas to LA to Las Vegas and back, with many stops along the way for 5-lug axle repairs!? What a trip!

Since I replaced the 5-lug with a 6-lug full floating, and was beginning to work on other fix-ups and upgrades.? But... we can't do it.

Status of vehicle;

? Runs Teriffic! (solar charger, starts right up today)
? Drives and shifts well
? Got average (11-18 depending on wind) mileage on that last long trip years ago
? Roof needs full repair
? Interior is OK
? Full Floating 6-lug rear-axle
? Installed larger propane tank
? needs water heater
? needs furnace
? fridge repaired and works well on battery, gas, electric
? house exterior needs rebuild (window gaskets and such)

Anyway, we don't know how much to ask for it.? We don't want to give it away, but it is time for someone else's creative energy.

Re: misfire issue

One culprit can be the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). It is mechanically connected to the accelerator linkage (so it'll be near the linkage). Electrically it's connected to the vehicle's computer. It tells the computer the position of your accelerator pedal. If it messes up, it can cause what's happening. I've had to replace mine. To adjust it yourself requires the vehicle's service manual (or Youtube video) and a multi-meter.

Re: misfire issue

Thank you, Buzz, I have determined to do what you recommended. I have located the filter, and you¡¯re right, it doesn¡¯t look easy!

Re: Air Conditioning

Wasn't aware this was a contest. Also needed to note,? Im in Fl with 96 degree temps and nearly 96% humidity. I also took this temp at idle. If I wanted to use my cab as a meat locker and dismiss the environmental determent of R12, I might see your reasoning. However, Im comfortable at 62 degrees knowing the reason R12 is no longer produced. Out of curiosity, do you use deodorant or hair spray from an aerosol can? You just can't bet the cooling effect of xylene.

With R12 refrigerant, the temp at the center vent is 36-42 degrees.

Re: Air Conditioning

I too converted my R12 to R134a. I ordered an O-ring kit, conversion kit and filter drier from Amazon, about $60 total. I let an A/C tech evacuate the old R12. He did it for free. He will clean it and resell for big $. I picked up a vacuum pump and gauges from O'Reilly's, free rental. Replaced O-rings at condenser and compressor. Replaced low and High pressure ports, which is the conversion kit. Pulled and held a vacuum, so no leaks. Added freon, R134a with PAG oil to spec. Whole job done in a day. Now I have cold A/C, 62 degrees at vent. One negative is that the 87' toyota doesn't have a high output blower fan. On a hot day it will work to cool thej cab. You will need to seal off the rest of the RV to contain the A/C air.? Also, it does rob the engine of a few HP.? This may matter to us 4 cylinder folks.?

On and opposing note. If you do not intend to have A/C, I'd remove the condenser coil to improve radiator cooling. I'd also remove the compressor belt to improve HP. Also remove the compressor for weight. You can always reinstall these items when you sell.?

Re: misfire issue

The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank.

The fuel filter is mounted underneath the intake manifold and is a pain to get at. I've read/heard that removing the front passenger-side
wheel and fender liner makes for easier fuel filter access (I've only ever changed one by bending my arms at awkward angles
from above).

However, fuel delivery issues tend to manifest at high engine speeds, not immediately upon acceleartion. A "quick and dirty" check for a fueling issue
is to remove the vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator? (usually located on the pipe feeding the fuel injectors). If the problem changes when
your remove that vacuum line (which simulates maximum engine load and drives fuel pressure to? maximum), then you likely have a fuel pressure/volume issue.

Instead, I suspect you still have an ignition quality/timing issue. Given you've replaced the cap, rotor, wires and plugs, the remaining likely culprit is
ignition timing control. If you have a 49-state engine with a vacuum-controlled distributor, make sure the vacuum lines are properly hooked up.

If it's anything more complex than a missing/misrouted vacuum line, you should probably have a professional mechanic diagnose the exact cause
(or follow the factory service manual diagnosis procedure yourself, if you're at that level of mechanical aptitude. The items you've already replaced
are inexpensive and are maintenance/wear items, anyway. If you need a new distributor or ignition control module, those are expensive so you
should be reasonably sure they're faulty before shelling out the replacement cost.

Good luck
