Used the tinySA app to update but now won't connect

I used the tinySA app (PC Win10) to update my new Ultra and it subsequently passed the self test.? Now, when I connect it to my PC, "USB Serial Device (COM4)" pops up in the Device Manager, I switch to COM4 in the tinySA app, and it won't connect.? Tried different usb cables and uninstalling re-installing the app, different sequences of staring things, etc.? Hitting the serial icon at the top off the app screen I get:

connect: serial port connecting ..
connect: serial port not connected
connect: tcpip port connecting ..
15.950? tcpip error A Host is required
connect: tcpip port not connected

Or I get:

connect: serial port connecting ..
08.954? serial error connect CreateFile [121] The semaphore timeout period has expired.
connect: serial port not connected

How do I fix this?

Welp, I found a workaround.? Disabling Bluetooth on my computer gets the tinySA app connected and working. I don't necessarily need BT active when working with the tinySA, but I'd like to have it work as I do sometimes use BT devices (mouse, keyboard, etc...).? What happens is...

With BT active and the tinySA plugged in, Device Manager says:

?? Standard Serial over Bluetooth link (COM3)
?? Standard Serial over Bluetooth link (COM4)
?? USB Serial Device (COM4)

The tinySA app won't connect.? When I disable BT, those two first lines go away and the app will connect and work.

It is failing because you have two of COM4. This should not happen but the solution would be to map the second COm4 to a different port number.

Yeah.? Weird right??? I try changing the port and no matter which I pick up to COM100 I get "The port has been opened by another application..." so I haven't accepted the change. What would you suggest, if anything?

To change the COM port number of a serial device in Device Manager, complete the following:

  1. Open the Device Manager by pressing the Windows Key + R. Type ¡°devmgmt.msc¡± and press Enter.
  2. Expand the Ports (COM & LPT) section.
  3. Right-click the COM port and select Properties.
  4. Click the Port Settings tab and click Advanced.
  5. Change the COM port number to an available COM port number.

Note: Multiple serial ports cannot share the same COM port number.

  1. Restart your computer.

Note: Even if you change the COM port number back to the original number, you still need to restart your computer.

Yep.? I had done that up to step 5.? Every port I tried said "The port has been opened by another application..."? I guess I'll try one and see what happens.? Does the tinySA care what com port is assigned?

OK.? I went for it a assign it to COM2.? Rebooted.? It's working.? Not sure if that'll screw anything else up.?

The TinySA does not know what a COM port is. Windows assigns a port number via the driver for the serial link. You should be able to change the port number even if Windows thinks it is in use.

Better to pick a higher number than COM2. If it works, it works, but remembering the bad old days of DB-9 and DB-25 connectors everywhere, I'd have headed for COM8 or higher. There's no need to be sequential (COM5, COM6...COMn). Again, if it works, it works. :)

FWIW, my Tiny/Nano boxen like to show up at COM15. I like to stay above the "DOS 4" original COM port assignmets when possible.

So far, COM2 is working, but I'll take your advice and choose something above COM8.? I've got nothing but USB ports on my computer and dock outside the HDMI and DVI-D ports. No nasty old serial ports.
