TinyPFA

I apologize for a bit of an off-topic post, but I viewed a YouTube video last night by Erik demonstrating the TinyPFA. I searched the Groups.io site, but did not see a group devoted to this topic/device.

From what I was able to glean from the video, the TinyPFA requires a NanoVNA-H4 and (free) firmware developed by Eric. I do not currently have a NanoVNA-H4, but do have NanoVNA SAA-2N. I was wondering if this firmware would be compatible with my current NanoVNA or if I would need to acquire a NanoVNA-H4?

I would like to see a group formed so that I can learn more about the TinyPFA and determine if I could find any applications for the device.

Again, sorry for the off-topic post.

Hi Ed

the SW gor the TinySA works only with the NanoVNA-H4
the SAA-2N or NanoVNA-F are different in the hardware, it would not be possible to use this devices.?
Erik has a forum on the website he send, he also send some messages why only the H4 will work to the nanovna group at group.io.

Steven, Thanks from me as well. I always thought (wrongly) that the NanoVNA-H4 was sub to the VNA-F. I guess I liked the larger screen and updated 5000mA battery install options by the sellers. I was favoring to buy the F over the H for those reasons. Live and learn I guess. 59

Thank you for posting this question in this group.

Wasn't aware of this little thing.

It is exactly what I miss in my test lab for RF measurement equipment.

So I ordered such a H4 variant immediately by eleshop.nl (I only owned two NANOVNA-F). It arrived today and after a short basic function test I loaded the PFA firmware.

What a great tool!

Thank you so much Erik for this code!

Now I can analyze the behavior of my rubidium oscs, GPSDOs and oven oscs. After isolating the good ones I can then analyze the jitter of the reference oscs in my SAs, VNA and my Marconi 2955. A long wished step to make my lab better :-)

I am so happy to have this hardly missed piece of equipment! In the past I used a mixer with a sound card on the IF port and a combination of scope and XY display to measure phase noise and drift. But this is much better. :-)

Thank you,

Isidro

Let me see if I got this right ....

The PFA Software gets loaded into the NanoVNA-H.

Can the NanoVNA-H still be used as a VNA or must
the PFA Software be somehow disabled or removed ??

If so, what is that procedure ?

Thanks for the enlightenment,
