Tiny SA installation

Sorry to show my ignorance (or just poor memory). I've just got my SA and updated the firmware and now want to install SA-Saver on my PC. I've already got nanoVNA running on the PC but I've forgotten how I installed nanoVNA Saver in those distant days before Covid.

I've downloaded the SA Saver source code files to my PC (Win10) but can't work out how to get an installation; thought I was supposed to be looking for a exe file according to Eric's Github site?? Maybe I missed the exe file somewhere?

I don't understand the instructions there but then I'm not really a software geek! Some plain English explanation would be helpful please?

regards

Nigel G8AYM

The is an exe call tinySA.exe (see the wiki), no need to install, download and run.
And there is tinySA-saver, which is just a bunch of python files, no exe and no install when you already have nanoVNA-saver running on your PC

Not sure I understand this; tinySA.exe is running fine.

Let's focus on the tinySA-Saver: what do I download and where do I put it? Simply running nanovna-saver doesn't call the SA surely?? Do I have to copy the SA files into the VNA folders?

I have the tinySA-saver files (tinysa-saver-0.11) all downloaded and unzipped into a folder on my PC; presumably something has to run one of those files... and which one???

Nigel,
? tinySA.exe is a compiled Windows executable and, as you've found, runs without requiring installation.? In a Windows PC installation it is your best choice as it is tailored for the tinySA and has features not available in tinySA-Saver.

?Erik provided tinySA-Saver mainly as a way for non-Windows users to have a way of saving graphs and taking screenshots of the tinySA display.? It is not tailored for the tinySA and just uses the NanoVNA-Saver s21 chart to display live data. You cannot control tinySA from tinySA-Saver as you can from tinySA.exe.

?The downloaded and un-zipped tinySA-Saver files do not contain a compiled executable and you need to have Python 3.x installed to run the unzipped scripts.? Python is installed by default on Linux and MacOS but Windows users have to do their own installation.

? My advice is that if you have tinySA.exe running on your system not to bother with tinySA-Saver since it will not gain you anything.

A good advice.
To run tinysa-saver go to where you unzipped the tinysa-saver files and run
python tinysa-saver.py
but as Herb stated, tinysa-saver is a quick hack to get some rudimental functionality for non windows users, don't complain if something does not work, I know

OK, I see. Having used the VNA-saver version I felt the usability was superior to the nanoVNA program and just assumed the same would apply to the SA.

Now, making a direct comparison it's clear that nanoVNA software has limitations in terms of screen size particularly with multi-graph presentation, whereas tinySA is already able to run full-screen, a point I had not noticed when I initially ran it (just assumed the same small screen display, without noticing it would run full-screen!!!). As the saying goes,? think twice, cut once.... or something like that!

By the way, current SA equipment here is Tek 7603 plus 7L14 (two of them) and 7L5. Will be interesting to compare them.

I have to commend all involved in this project; it's truly impressive so far!

Many thanks

Well, at least the weight is different

Greetings All,

? ? ? ? I encountered difficulty getting tinySA.exe to run on one of my Windows 10 64b Pro computers. It reported missing file errors initially and then a 0xc00000x error code. I discovered that although I had the 2015-2019 MS Visual C++ Redistribution Package installed the additional installation of the 2010 redistribution package was also needed. It does run OK on a second Windows 10 64b Pro PC I have which has the 2013 redistribution version installed. It does not have the 2010 version installed thus it appears to be OK with the 2013 version as well.
