5.8GHz wideband video signal measurements

Hello!?

I'm an FPV drone pilot and FPV race organizer.
The drones usually use the 5.8GHz frequency range to send video signal to the receiver. Here are a table for our used frequencies(the bandwith of the video signal is about 30MHz):

At FPV race events and we have sometimes some problems. We are using for racing the Raceband frequencies. For 4 pilot it is usually R1, R3, R6, R7. This video signal bandwidth is about 30MHz. Sometimes the VTX is faulty or bad designed, so VTX transmit not only on the adjusted frequency but in other channel too. Is the TinySA ultra capable to measure such a frequency signals? We want to ensure, that the drone only transmit the video signal on the adjusted frequency and bandwidth. This is a important question for me before I buy TinySA ultra.
I hope my problem was?understandable, If not please not hesitate to ask! :)

Thank you!
Best Regards!
Daniel Czigany

Daniel,

I'm not saying that the TinySA Ultra will do your job, but mine scans 5.645 to 5.945 GHz with a RBW and VBW of 850 kHz, certainly sufficient resolution to determine which if the 8 channels is in use. It easily sees signals in the 5 GHz Wi-Fi spectrum (5170-5330 MHz).

I hope the attached shows properly (it's only 18 kB) but it shows my TinySA Ultra detecting /something/ on 5.704 GHz (likely in the house) with a "2.4/5 Wi-Fi antenna".

Be very careful not to feed too great a signal into the device as you may damage it, not not too close to the transmitter!

Cheers,
David

This is what I get when I switch on the tinySA Ultra with the supplied (not optimal) telescopic antenna connected and the scan frequency set to 5.6GHz to 5.95GHz
For better sensitivity you can enable the LNA but it won't make a big diference
The signal you see between the markers is from a DJI mini drone.
Yellow is the live scan, green is the max hold scan.
Markers 2 and 3 where set to the band boundaries as indicated by the DJY Fly app
The drone was at approximate 50 cm from the tinySA
As you can see there is a wide band transmission between markers 2 and 3 and sometimes something in other bands (probably my phone)
With the telescopic antenna the drone is no longer visible when more than 5 meters away.
The telescopic antenna should not be extended. Shortest length works best

Hi, compared to the signal detection you performed with the “2.4/5 Wi-Fi antenna” visible in the image you posted, how did the stock antenna included with the TinySa Ultra behaved ?

We have made some LNAs for increasing the sensitivity at 5.8GHz, you can try using the zk-06 LNA module.

What is the advantage they offer over the LNA embedded in the TinySA Ultra ?

Should the LNA integrated in the TinySA Ultra be disabled or does the effect of the external one add to the former ?

Lastly, where can they be purchased ? On Zeenko's website and Aliexpress page there are no photos or links for purchase.

The LNA integrated in the TinySA Ultra is effective below 3.5 GHz, and you can use the ZK06 LNA to improve sensitivity above 3.5 GHz.?
It will be available for sale on Zeenko's Aliexpress soon.

The internal LNA should be disabled, otherwise you have a risk of overloading.
The gain of the ZK-06 is fairly flat above 1 GHz so setting an EXT GAIN of 22 dB should give you accurate (+/- 2dB) power readings up to 6 GHz

The links are no longer working in my case.

Being an official accessory made by the factory that produces the TinySA Ultra, perhaps the announcement of availability would have deserved a separate topic dedicated to these new products ...

These LNAs are visible on the home page of (see photo below), but clicking on them gives an error.

Does anyone have an explanation ?

The two LNAs are visible on the Zeenko Store Aliexpress home page, but when I click on them, the error message visible in the image below appears:

It is possible that Aliexpress cannot ship to your country, we will distribute to dealers in different countries after more testing of the LNA.

quite strange Hugen as I regularly buy electronic stuff from Aliexpress!
