Firmware upgrade - put TinySA into DFU mode and it loses contact with the PC #tinysa

Purchased from Mirfield Electronics so it should be good. Downloaded the TinySA app which works well and connects to the device successfully. So far so good.

When I put the TinySA into DFU mode to initiate a firmware update it promptly loses connection with the PC so firmware upload is not therefore possible.

So I guess I am doing something wrong but cant figure out what. I have watched Youtube videos but they have not replicated the problem I am having.

Andy, I just got my tinysa from amazon and everything worked as you describe. Had the same problem updating the firmware too,? but finally got it upgraded.I tried the dfu demo and it wouldn't see the tinysa. Had to use stm32cube programmer as the dfu demo was superceeded by it. Could not get the dfu programmer in tinysa app to connect to it either. I reloader the defuse demo version 3.05 again, still could connect to tinysa by defuse demo ot tinysa app. I put the tinysa in dfu mode by menu, went to? device manager, checked universal serial bus controllers,? and verified that stm32 bootloader was present. Double clicked? on it and went to driver tab,? selected update driver on the internet, not on computer, waited until it finished and said driver was updated. I then started? stm32 cube programmer, clicked on open file at top left, selected the location where I placed the update bin file in pop up , (be sure you changed the bin file to tinysa.bin), selected it and it loaded into the programmer, be sure sure it says usb configuration on top right of programmer, it will not have a port number but has usb1 and right below it says "serial number???? fffffffeffff". Click on download and it will then download the bin file to the tinysa. I have included a .jpg of how the programmer should look like, ignore the "not connected" at top right of programmer, when you select download it will do the connecting. Hope this helps you, you will have to download the stm32 cube programmer and install it first of course.

You need a driver for the DFU mode, it is not the same as the normal one used for serial coms with TinySA App.

There is a lot of info about it in previous messages.

Hi John,

?

Hallelujah, praise the Lord worked! The only thing I found different was you said that you checked the universal serial bus controllers for the boot loader. It was in the universal serial bus devices not controllers.. That may be computer specific.

Anyway thank you very very much. If I get the chance I'll document that with pictures, a little bit more than what you did. If it's worth sharing I'll share it.

?

Kind Regards,

Dave

Hi guys.
If using win 10, when the device is plugged in with DFU mode then run windows update, look at other devices in the update optional update and it will find the STM driver and you can choose to install it. Windows will do it for you.
Hope that helps.
