Firmware updating
On Fri, Dec 18, 2020 at 04:50 PM, John wrote:
How is the firmware in the tinysa updated?? See the following Wiki topic???.? If you have TinySA-App installed then it has a tab with two triangles (upload) that allow you to update the firmware.? I use it all the time and have never had a problem.? If you've updated the firmware on a NanoVNA then the process is the same. ? The above applies to the Windows operating system.? The procedure for Linux and MACOS is different. ?- Herb |
Thanks Herb, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. John On Fri, Dec 18, 2020 at 5:46 PM hwalker <herbwalker2476@...> wrote: On Fri, Dec 18, 2020 at 04:50 PM, John wrote: |
Y'all might want to add a comment in the 'Updating the Firmware' wiki about Windows: what to do when the USB driver install fails.
I tried it first on my main Win7 desktop, USB-3.0 port.? Splat in the Device Manager.? OK, try a USB-2.0 port instead.? Another splat. <expletive deleted>? Fine. Spend 10 minutes in a <expletive deleted> merry-go-round at ST.com trying to get the DfuSe software, and having the most frustrating time with their website I've had in the last 10 years.? I was so annoyed by the time I finally got the file that I've sworn off EVER using an ST micro in one of my designs.? I've been on the 'net since the '80s; it's not my first rodeo. DfuSe installs without any errors, still doesn't manage to load the frelling USB driver.? <several more expletives deleted>? DfuSe uninstalled, as what's the point? Switch over to my Win8.1 laptop, and try again.? Another splat in the Device Manager.? Gee, this feels eerily familiar; wasn't I just here?? OK, Google, what do you have for me?? Oh. Youtube, first hit: fire up Zadig and install the WinUSB driver.? Okaaayyyy, haven't needed to do *that* for a while, I'm game.? Voila!? The driver is recognized, and the command prompt batch file worked, once I renamed the *.bin file <file not found...> Finally the current (new) release is installed.? That whole process was WAY more painful than it needed to be. Off topic: an old works great with the touchscreen. |
Next time try TinySA-App or NanoVNA-App for updating firmware. Easy-peasy.
