Tiny SA Ultra Firmware

Hello Group,
How does one update the firmware in the Tiny SA Ultra?
I've searched on-line and can only find info that looks like it is only relevant to the Tiny SA and not the Tiny SA Ultra.

I already have a Tiny SA and I have STMCubeProgrammer installed from when I last updated my Tiny SA.

Even the on-line Tiny SA manual only looks to refer to the Tiny SA and not the Tiny SA Ultra.

I have already downloaded;

tinySA4_v1.4-109-g5cfd570.bin
tinySA4_v1.4-109-g5cfd570.dfu
tinySA4_v1.4-109-g5cfd570.elf
tinySA4_v1.4-109-g5cfd570.hex

Which on one WEB site suggested these were the latest Tiny SA Firmware, but wasn't very explicit to say if these were for the Tiny SA or the Tiny SA Ultra, are they the correct latest firmware for the Tint SA Ultra?

I have the tinySA-App.exe and that talks to the Tiny SA Ultra via the USB port on my Windows 10 PC.
I also tried running DFU_LOAD_BIN.bat, but that just reports an error saying it can't open Tinysa.bin, suggesting the batch file is only for the Tiny SA and not the Ultra.

Is there an idiot's step-by-step guide to updating the Tiny SA Ultra firmware, please?
Not to be confused with the Tiny SA.

I hope someone can be kind enough to help because I have literally spent all day trying to figure out how to update the Tiny SA Ultra firmware and got nowhere other than frustrated at search engines turning up info on the Tint SA.

TIA,
Keith.

Thank you, Erik!
I have literally spent all day searching and trying all kinds.
All I found is that search engines can't differentiate between a search for Tiny SA and Tiny SA Ultra, even when you have "Tiny SA Ultra" in quotes.
What I was finding didn't specifically say it was for the Tint SA Ultra and when following suggestions it became obvious that what I was finding was only for the Tiny SA and not the Tiny SA Ultra.

Your link to the video made it so very simple.
It may be a good idea to have that link in the www.tinysa.org/wiki/ page on updating the Tiny SA Ultra firmware. It makes it so much easier!

Thank you again,
Keith.

That (video) approach also works for TinySA.. the only difference is the DFU entry on TinySA can be toggled in the menu on later fw-revisions, while on TinySA Ultra jog-wheel pushdown while turning it on.
but "stm32cubeProg. will upgrade both TinySA & Ultra and it's very straightforward.

I'm having trouble getting my TinySA Ultra to connect to?STM32 Cube Programmer.? Yes, I'm powering up with the jog wheel depressed and Windows recognizes that a device is connected to USB but is not identified in Windows Device Manager.

I've downloaded the latest STM driver 1.5 but still cannot connect.? I'm running WIN10 but driver choices are only for WIN7 and WIN8.? I've tried both x64 files to no avail.? Clues anyone?? If there's a web location for a better WIN10 driver, it would be most helpful to have a direct link.? Thanks in advance.

Hello Paul,

Does the “tinySA-App” connect to your Tiny SA Ultra when not in DFU mode?

?

This would rule out it being a PC driver/USB cable fault.

?

I already had the Tiny-SA-App installed on my PC and knew it talked to the Tiny SA Ultra, it was just how to update the Tiny SA Ultra firmware that I was stuck on.

?

Regards,

Keith.

Keith,

?

Thanks for the suggestion.? After rebooting Windows, I now see the correct Com port and device name.? The TinySA connects to the tinySA-APP and I can make sweeps.? However, there’s still no connectivity to the cube programmer software in DFU mode. ?

This may suggest there is a problem with your installation of the STM32CubeProgrammer.

I use Windows 64 bit and STM32CubeProgrammer_win64.

?

May I suggest uninstalling the STM32CubeProgrammer and reinstalling it, making sure you have the correct version for your “flavour” of Windows.

Keith.

Is the only way to update the firmware by?STM32CubeProgrammer? Can users use?tinySA-APP in some method to update the firmware?

The TinySA app can do the firmware update.
That's what I've always used.
My current version is 1.1.20.1

Still no joy after deleting then reloading.? The version I'm using for WIN10 appears below as captured from the help screen.? My PC is an i7 running WIN10 x64.

STM32CubeProgrammer API v2.14.0 | Windows-64Bits?

I'll next try an update through the tinySA-App.??

I just tried a firmware update through the tinySA-App, and get the error message below:

Opening \\?\usb#vid_0483&pid_df11#206436492036#{a5dcbf10-6530-11d2-901f-00c04fb951ed}??open failed?
No valid DFU device found

I can otherwise connect the via app and make sweeps.? So, it appears to be hardware related with the DFU interface and either I have a failed TinySA Ultra or possibly it's a clone from AliExpress.

This is a problem with some windows configurations for which I have not yet found a solution
Please use another tool for updating the FW

Paul,

Does the device appear to go into DFU mode?
Can you try a different PC?

I have always used DfuSe Demo (v3.0.6) to update the FW of both classic and #ultra, with windows 7 and windows 10

I have only used one way to update my tinySAs, both Basic and Ultras, and have never had a problem with it.? That is from the Linux command line with dfu-util, however dfu-util is also available for Windows and Mac if you use those.? Get it here:

All I do is download the latest .bin file, available here:

Then "press the jog button before switching on the tinySA Ultra. Switch on and the screen should stay black."

Then navigate in the terminal to where I have saved the .bin file and use this command, using the current .bin file as an example:

dfu-util -d 0483:df11 -a 0 -s 0x08000000:leave -D ./tinySA4_v1.4-109-g5cfd570.bin

If you continue having problems updating from Windows, it can be done from Linux running from a USB stick.

Hello Paul,
If you have a Android cell phone, there is a simplified way.
The App "StmDfuUsb" in the play store is super easy to? update the FW on the TinySA'S, and both the NanoVNA H and H4.

Thanks for all the suggestions.? After many attempts there’s still no DFU connect.? I don’t have a burning need to update my TinySA Ultra so a solution can wait until another day.?
