Re: Using the TinySA Ultra for fault finding
Hi Martin et al,
thanks very much for the information it’s very much appreciated, as I said my main worry was blowing up the output of the rf generator, the scope probe is definitely one I will try.

Re: Using the TinySA Ultra for fault finding
And another thing...
If you want to build your own passive probe, then using a series connected resistor and capacitor is a better option.
The principle is described on this

Re: Using the TinySA Ultra for fault finding
One other thing I forgot to mention.
You can use a X10 scope probe with a spectrum analyser and will obtain a similar level of attenuation.
This can be handy, for example, when tracing an RF signal

Re: Using the TinySA Ultra for fault finding
Hi Bob,
Yes, I'd agree on these theoretical values, but a lot depends upon the probe construction and the load impedance, and I have successfully used this technique in practice for many

Actually the figure is about -52.5dB. 9 MegOhm/50 Ohm divider.

Re: Using the TinySA Ultra for fault finding
You will get about 20 to 30dB loss through a X10 probe, as they are designed for use with a high input impedance scope.
But if you are not bothered about the accuracy of the signal amplitude, it's a

You're right, please see Erik's comment ( "The minimum output level is -115dBm" ):

Re: Using the TinySA Ultra for fault finding
Hi Martin,
thanks for the reply, I never thought of the x10 scope Probe idea, I do have signal generators but it’s the time waiting for them to stabilise that can be a pain.

Re: Using the TinySA Ultra for fault finding
Personally, I'd place an extra external attenuator on the generator output, and then use a DC blocking capacitor.
If you are not worried about absolute signal levels, then put something like a 1k ohm

Using the TinySA Ultra for fault finding
Hi all,
I’m considering using my TinySA Ultra as a signal generator to fault find a VHF SSB transceiver, I want a stable 10.7MHz signal that I can inject into the signal chain but I’m worried

Re: Signal Generator level output
AFAIK the fault was that the older FW versions allowed you to enter an illegal lower value output (-124dBm?) than the hardware can actually achieve. So with the older FW if you entered -124 you still

Re: Signal Generator level output
See specifications in the tinySA Ultra Wiki.? The minimum output in the signal generator mode is depreciated to -115dBm.

TinaSA Ultra - Sweep command giving back random data error in dBm Field.
Hi all
Has anyone had trouble with dodgy data in the dBm field in the data returned from a sweep.? e,g, "sweep 520M 530M 21"
I am getting:
552700000 -:.000000e+01 0.000000000
You will notice that

Re: Tiny SA Ultra - What do the parameters of the lna2 command mean
That's OK,
But I do need the LNA it gives me a big boost in SNR. The TV signals are down around -80dB mark.
