Re: Restore presets after firmware update?

Hmmmm. 30+ years ago, when packet was big, I used a very similar approach to saving a TNC configuration, and then restoring it later. Thanks for the reminder!

Re: Will the TinySA Ultra allow me to examine SSB modulation?

This is 500Hz AM modulation depth 100%?
And this is 1% depth AM modulation to simulate the ability to see a -45dBc suppressed carrier at 500Hz distance -- For more info on the tinySA go to https://tinysa.org/wiki/

Will the TinySA Ultra allow me to examine SSB modulation?
#specifications
Hi guys,
I'm planning a purchase of the new Tiny SA Ultra and I'm looking at features that are important to me.? As a radio ham, transceiver builder and a proud owner of the original TinySA, I can say that one feature I would have liked in the TinySA is the ability to examine my SSB modulation (see this thread /g/tinysa/topic/74067552#143).? So, I'm encouraged by what I see in the specifications of the new Ultra, with its narrower RBW of 300Hz. My question then is to anyone who has performed these kinds of measurements.? What are your impressions? Does it meet your expectations and are there any caveats to be aware of? Kind Regards. D. |
Re: Tiny SA shipped
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThat's funny, eleshop.nl also had send me a shipping notification yesterday. Seems both shops got the units same time. :-) Isidro DB1SBI Am 29.11.2022 um 23:31 schrieb Steve

Re: Cal Function on the ULTRA
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Larry, Yeah, I'm a visual guy, that's the reason for wanting the 'road-map' to the ultra. I'm working on one and it'll take some time as I will be modifying it from time to time to get it right. Also, thanks for the various notes regarding the
ultra. The test 3 failure was a real bone head one, duh, hook up
the cable FIRST, go figure. I am working on that pre-amp one of the guys
suggested using the MMBT5089, wow, is that thing small, first
I'm going to buy one of those microscope do-dads to even see the
leads. Being retired ain't for sissy's, it's hard work. Later, Mike C. Sand Mtn GA

Re: Tiny SA shipped
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI talked (email) with someone at R & L last Friday. They said a shipment was coming in this week, but that it was sold out. I think he said the next shipment in was due in like 3 weeks (from last Friday? I don't know!) He thought my order would be fulfilled this week, but I haven't gotten a ship notice so we'll see. :-) Paul On 11/29/22 16:21, Barry wrote:

Yep, got that same ship notice, a nice afternoon surprise. They're already/still showing them out of stock, so hard to say if thats simply, they just haven't updated the online store, or they're still trying to get all backorders filled, and can't even yet do that. |
Re: Restore presets after firmware update?

Another method would be to have a text file with the necessary commands to create and save the PRESETS in TinySA. Just copy it and enter it through the console or the app after the update.?
For instance, the attached file is the one I use to load the presets to monitor the TV channels in my house, also with markers:
- As startup (preset #0) we see all the band occupied.
- In preset #1 there is an analog channel.
- In presets #2, #3 and #4 there are several digital DTT channels.?
I hope it will be useful Toni ? |

Martin,
Thanks for the clear, complete instructions on how to do this. Very much appreciated. 73, Alan WA4SCA |

Thanks David, I'll check that software out.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThank you.? I do have a NanoVNA and I'm at the point where I can
get my antenna dialed in easily.? That much I know.? I also know
the NanoVNA is much more capable than just that.? I'll investigate
further.? 73, Fleet KC1QHE

... is there a way to save preset configurations?Alan?WA4SCA, You can save and restore the configuration data with the help of the command line tool dfu-util, available as and as??from Erik's site. Switch the device in DFU mode with "MENU / CONFIG / -> DFU / ENTER DFU" and save (upload to PC) it with: ? dfu-util --device 0483:df11 --alt 0 --dfuse-address 0x0801D000 --upload tinySA_config.binChose the file name to store as you like, e.g. 'tinySA_config.bin' - this file shall not exist before otherwise the command fails. So you cannot overwrite already existing set-up data. Switch to DFU mode and restore (download to tinySA) the saved config:? ? dfu-util --device 0483:df11 --alt 0 --dfuse-address 0x0801D000 --download tinySA_config.bin For tinySA Ultra the config address in flash has changed, the command are (untested): ? dfu-util --device 0483:df11 --alt 0 --dfuse-address 0x0803C000 --upload tinySA_Ultra_config.bin ?dfu-util --device 0483:df11 --alt 0 --dfuse-address 0x0803C000 --download tinySA_Ultra_config.binIf you make a small HW modification you can enter the DFU mode for tinySA simply by pressing the jog switch while turning power on. Can I use the TinySA as a tracking generator for the RF Explorer?Yes and no. If you can put the RF explorer in max hold mode, you can let both devices independently sweep the target range and hope that after some time you have been able to catch all frequencies but this can take considerable time. It is not possible to sweep in a synchronized way. You could create a PC application that control the sweeping of both devices. May I suggest you look into the nanoVNA family of VNA's as often a VNA is a much better tool than a SA with a tracking generator. ? -- For more info on the tinySA go to https://tinysa.org/wiki/ |
TinySA as Tracking Generator
Greetings,
First off, I'm very, very new to spectrum analyzers.? I'm also a first year ham operator.? I found the web page showing how two TinySAs could be used, one for a tracking generator, the other acting as the spectrum analyzer.? I don't have two TinySA's yet (Ultra, I'm looking at you!) but I'd like to learn how the two combined work together.? Again, I'm a beginner here. I bought my TinySA to use as a sacrificial instrument until I learned how to use one without blowing it up.? I also have an RF Explorer spectrum analyzer that goes to 6GHz and I read the manual before using it and learned of some of the pitfalls awaiting someone with no knowledge of power levels and how to attenuate them.? I know more now, at least in the safety department and I am looking to maximize the use of my tools.? My question is:? Can I use the TinySA as a tracking generator for the RF Explorer?? If I can then I'll proceed as shown by Erik and go from there.? i don't even know how/why a tracking generator is used but I wish to find out.? Do I have the tools to do so with these two spectrum analyzers? 73, Fleet |
