Re: New FW release: Corrected hang after display test fail
I just installed the new firmware and when running the self test on test 10 I'm getting Signal level Critical? for the status. Then on test 12 I'm getting Attenuator Fail for the status. I just received my TinySA on Friday so this is all new to me.
Thanks, Hal |
Low Output Mode - 1/10 db steps
#feature_request
I find that the TinySa is very useful as a signal generator and use it to test my SDR receivers and some RF projects I am building.? The new slider features and the external amp make it more easy to use. ?
One feature that would be very nice is an additional line on the menu bar with 1 and 10 dB step increments and decrements that could be activated with a single tap.? Tapping twice on +10? once would increase the level by 10 dB and two taps by 20 dB.? Tapping on the -1 dB would decrement by a dB for each tap. I created a Menu screen to show what it might look like.? I hope Erik will consider this feature request. Roger |

There is an oblong hole in the back case near the jog switch.? Push the small thread loop through there (it may take a tiny tool to help), then thread the pick and lanyard through the small thread loop. --John Gord On Mon, Jan 18, 2021 at 02:54 PM, Rob French wrote: Can somebody give me a clue about how you're supposed to attach the |
Attaching the lanyard
Can somebody give me a clue about how you're supposed to attach the lanyard (with the little guitar pick on it)? I can't find anything to wrap it around, and the introductory videos never have a camera angle that shows how it's attached.
(BTW I'm now on my second TinySA. The first one's attenuator failed. This one is passing the self tests correctly.) Thanks! |

New FW release: Corrected hang after display test fail
New FW release
Version V1.1-76 Changes: - Corrected the bug that caused a hang after a failing display test. The display test is no longer the first test but test 11. Test 12 is now the attenuator test and it will take some time so wait for it to finish. ------------------------------------------ For more info on the tinySA go to https://tinysa.org/wiki/ |
Re: TinySA (Real-one) and V1.1-74 ad 75 bug?
As the waterfall is also not working this "hang" is caused by an error in the self test when it detects it can not read correctly back from the display memory.
I will correct this error in the next FW release. -- ------------------------------------------

Re: TinySA (Real-one) and V1.1-74 ad 75 bug?
Just had another look, the instant I hit the Self Test mode, I see (for a very small fraction of a second) a line of dots or dashes at the very top of the screen.
They only exist for maybe 0.1 seconds or less... then it freezes / twitches..? ?Blink and you miss them!? Steve? |
Tip of the day
For the real TinySA with the white label, you can "laminate" the label with a piece of clear packing tape placed over it and carefully trimmed to fit the space with a sharp hobby knife. Recommended if you handle the unit a lot. Mine was starting to show wear of the print in a short time.

Re: TinySA (Real-one) and V1.1-74 ad 75 bug?
Hello Erik,?
This test was with 1.1-75m freshy loaded.? ?My tinySA is HW V0.3? ? SN SA-20102809 The Level Cal works as expected, green progress "bar" etc, and completes. However, the Self Test does not show the same green progress "bar"... The only thing that appears to change is that the display reference level jumps from -90dB, to about -50dB. Please see attached photo above. .? At that point the unit is in that frozen twitching mode. I have to power cycle to resume operation.? I really appreciate the fast response and your help here! Best!? Steve |
Re: TinySA (Real-one) and V1.1-74 ad 75 bug?
First run original TinySA. Firmware 75, both waterfall modes work OK, self test passes.

Re: TinySA (Real-one) and V1.1-74 ad 75 bug?
I expect the display test at the start of the self test fails.?
Let me try to simulate display failure and see how it behaves Do you see a single colored line appear at the top of the screen at the start of the selftest? -- ------------------------------------------

TinySA (Real-one) and V1.1-74 ad 75 bug?
Hello All:
New tinySA user here, (I have a NanoVNA too).? My tinySA was from R&L, so should be real.? I've had the unit for 3 weeks, worked well.? ?However, I have an odd issue when I load the latest SW, 1.1-74 or 75.? Everything appears to work as expected, except that the Self Test behaves very strangely... It does not progress to the test list, it just sits there...(usual freq / level display)? If I press Self Test again, the display starts twitching and the unit freezes up.? ? The twitching shows as an update to the frozen display... locked program loop?? I have to power down / up to resume operation...? ? Is this just me, I have not seen this reported or commented upon?? I tried numerous older versions of SW that do work, and perform the self test... 1.1-72 works (but does give an ATTEN Fail on self check) Another comment, like some others, the waterfall mode appears as just one thin line at the bottom of the display.? I've seen suggestions about checking the LCD for shorts etc... I'm an engineer... but I'm not 100% convinced that the LCD shorts would cause all of these reports...? Aside from these minor issues, I LOVE the tinySA (and VNA too)? It's not an HP, I have one of those too, BUT the HP doesn't fit in m y pocket!? Best! Steve? |
Re: Connector savers
Back in another life I picked up some used SMA adapters from one of the regular hamfest vendors that seemed to be in good shape for just a few dollars. I looked up one of the Amphenol parts later and they were around $80 new. I would be hard pressed to pay that much for hobby use but was happy to get a decent used one at a bargain price.

Re: New FW release: NFM and WFM carrier frequency bug corrected
I upgraded mine to 1.1-75 and it shows that firmware version.
Also corrects the modulation in FM Narrow and FM wide carrier frequencies. I used IMSAI Guy's YouTube video and it worked perfectly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZQQWchHLAA Rick - KE0GB |

I upgraded the firmware this morning to 1.1.74.? No problems.? Then I saw the firmware upgrade to 1.1.75, so I thought I'd upgrade to the most current version.?? Loaded it.? Everything seemed to work ok.? Went back to the TinySA App, connected, and the TinyApp 1.1.4.6 says that the firmware is 1.1.74.? Thinking I made a mistake, I went back and upgraded to 1.1.75 again, went back to the TinyAp, and it still says Firmware is 1.1.74. I'm fairly new to this, so I'm thinking I must be doing something wrong.? According to the version in the TinySA, I'm still on Firmware 1.1.74.? I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
